Hi Penny,
There have been active spirochetes found in the brains of those who have shown no symptoms after receiving proper treatment, so we can only expect a remission.
It's hoped that once the infection is put into remission, that the body's own immune system can handle keeping the spirochetes down, which is why many turn to herbs to keep their immune functions high. Although there are many who never look back once they have completed their treatments. Their body just is able to handle things just fine.
A big thing to watch out for though would be highly stressful events, or stress lasting for long periods. It doesn't seem to matter what form the stress takes, mental, physical, or emotional though. A car accident, divorce, marriage, death in the family, a major move, surgery, or a loved one's surgery have all been triggers for relapses - and don't forget the possibility of being reinfected. Since even mosquitoes now carry these infections (at least Lyme and Babesia that we know of), we must always be on alert for possible symptoms.
Sure wish I had better news for you!! I always dread trying to answer that question!!
