Coartem (for Babesia) - Thoughts/Advice/Experiences?

My wife is seeing an LLMD and his zyto machine picked up a pretty high rating for Coartem. On her Igenex test it said that she was NEG for Babesia, but the Dr wants her to try Coartem anyways because he said there are forms of Babesia that the test might've not picked up. What are your thoughts? Do you have any experience or suggestions about Coartem? I think he wants her to take 4 tabs twice a day for 3 days out of the month (and do this for 2 months.) Is this going to ruin her immune system, liver, etc....? I'm very worried for her to take it, esp because the original Babesia test came back NEG. Thanks for your suggestions/advice!

I don't know anything about zyto machines for guiding treatment.

But, it is true that testing for Babesia (and other co's) is not reliable/accurate.
LL Dr.'s clinically diagnose when it comes to the co infections.

Does she have symptoms of babs?

As far as the concerns of Coartem - I will not comment...as I'm not familiar with it. I know other members have used it...so hopefully they will post and give you their thoughts on it.

Thanks! I have to research babs more. Maybe he's treating based on symptoms.

My husband and I both took it for 3 months, I didn't notice a difference and my husband thought it made him feel better but neither one of us have strong symptoms for Babs.

I've been on different ANX for 18 months and my liver is fine but I'm off off all treatment my LLMD prescribed and I'm doing bee venom therapy and having great results.

As Girlie mentioned, the testing for the co-infections is worse than those for Lyme. And, new strains of babesia (and bartonella) are discovered every few months and there definitely aren't tests for those yet. It all boils down to clinical diagnosis - based upon symptoms.

Please know that it's possible to have asymptomatic babesia and/or bartonella infections.

Leaving those asymptomatic infections untreated can impede healing from Lyme.

If you and your wife are uncomfortable with the thought of the med itself, perhaps you might want to speak the LLMD about an herbal protocol that addresses babesia.

I just wrapped up my second round of Coartem. My doctor had me take 3 pills 2x a day for 4 days. This is my second round the first round I took in mid-June. It DEFINITELY helped my main babesia symptom which is head wooziness/pressure/lightheadedness. It kick started a quicker advancement to less symptoms after I was on zithro/mepron for 3 months. The 2nd round didn't really do much I believe because my bug load is much lower. Note I tested Igenex positive for both lyme and babesia ducani.

I had no ill effects from this drug. A lot of people take this in 3rd world countries heck I heard a guy that worked in oil exploration and was taking the 6x a year to bounce back from malaria.

The 1st time I took coartem I herxed pretty bad. Now every round I take I feel better and better. I love this drug, it works great for me with no adverse effects!
