Neverending herx/flare from Bactrim. How long can it last?

I started Bactrim 5 wks ago. 1x a day first wk went well with no herx. 2nd wk did 2x day with extreme flare with nerve pain, tingling, burning, aches in legs and feet. Went back to 1x with slight improvement but 2x flared again. Ive now just been on 1x for last wk and a half but the nerves just wont calm down. Also have muscle and joint pain. My stomach, however, has improved after starting Bactrim. I feel that i am in a neverending herx. Was wondering if anyone else has had ling herxes from Bactrim. I am super sensitive to any med i take and it takes me a long time to adjust, but this is hanging on for awhile. I deel like im going in the wrong direction. Most days.

So sorry to hear of these issues!!!

While I can speak directly to issues with Bactrim, I do ask what you are doing for detoxing?

And, no matter what you're doing, I suggest you increase it....and continue increasing it. It's our only hope of reducing herxes and moving forward with treatment.

My detoxing consists of activated charcoal 2x day, epsom salts bath every other day and infrared sauna the other days, lemon water 2-3 x day, alka seltzer gold, glutathione viia nebulizer 2x wk., coffee enema 1x wk. suggestions on how much should i increase? Thanks!!

Your detox protocol is commendable!

Perhaps you might consider adding a few things that help the nervous system specifically...

There are many herbal preparations to choose from: stuff like Pinella, Jernigans Neuro Anti-tox CNS/PNS, Kudzu, Stephania, Chinese Skullcap, Avena Sativa, Green Tea, Cordyceps

Supplements that can help are: B vitamins, especially B12, magnesium, NAC, Acetyl-l-carnitine + SAM-e, NT Factor

Another possibility is LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) - this isn't really a detox method but a med with virtually no side effects that helps modulate the immune system. By doing this, people can experience significant reductions in pain.

Thanks for the recommendations. Is the Jernigans ok to take if currently on IV abx? I tried Pinella and seemed to herx worse but wondered if i increased too fast. I increased 1 drop per day up to 10. I feel like i've been plugged into a light socket.

If you aren't getting any relief from the detoxing, then you have to lower your abx dose even more - sorry. I know that's not what you want to hear! But You can't continue to herx as it affects how much healing is going on. The more you are herxing, the less healing will happen.

I don't know how any herb might be with IV abx. I know Buhner says herbs can be taken along with abx but I don't recall commentary further than that.

You could call the manufacturer to see what they might recommend.

I'd also be inclined to start a specific thread on here....

Some people do report herxes on Pinella so it's entirely possible you increased too fast.

And, I agree with Traveler....if you can't tame that herx, you should consider lowering your abx dose.
