My son has been on abx last coul,e months...lost tons weight, too skinny, and abx makes him lose appetite. He's got diarrhea now and nausea. But mostly pain in his gut, says feels like its disenegrating on inside.

I feel panicked. I'm sick about this. He's 18 and I just want to take him off all abx...I'm scared if he doesn't take them and feel almost as scared that he does take them. His gut was kind of touchy before we started the Abx.

Could this be herxing, I'd feel better if I knew if was and not thinking the abx are hurting him!

Is he taking a good probiotic? Also, if u think he could be herxing, is he detoxing? It's always hard to tell what symptoms are the disease and what are being caused by the toxins. It's also hard to tell if you are getting any better when u are herxing. All I CAN say is that it does take a long time. This disease is a long, hard journey. I was on antibiotics for over two years and had numerous people tell me that "it's not good to be on antibiotics that long." It's not good to have a bacteria eating away at your organs either so I didn't have much choice. The point is to keep at it. Rest, switch up treatments, and listen to your body. My dr, described it like climbing a mountain - you will come upon many pits and valleys and as long as you keep inching up to the top and making progress you will beat it.

Thx for responding and for the encouragement springs jean...he slacks on the probiotic at times, lately not as consistent, but he does take, 50 billion. And he does lots of water, has recently cut down on lemon in it, maybe one a day with lemon, rest plain. and infrared sauna 5 x week. Infact today he didn't last in the sauna and started feeling weak so got out. I guess what I expected from herxing I've never related to gut pain. He feels like he's dying, pain all over, nausea. I wonder if thst little extra effort he made before was enough to keep herxing at bay.

When you say rest, do you think it's ok to take breaks from the abx now and then. For two months He's been on clarithromycin, ceftin, and pulsing flagyl right now.....our goal was stick with till nov when we see the llnp and see what comes next, but at that point I know she wants to try new abx for bart.

i think if I knew he was herxing I would actually feel better. I think I worry about c diff....well and like you said, many docs telling me how bad it is for him to be on the abx...they are the ones who doubt lyme.

I wish I could confidently tell him this is die off and it's working. I wish I could know that myself. It's frustrating when he kind if thinks my detoxing suggestions are silly, he doubts how effective they can be. He's a teenager!

I appreciate the mountain analogy. I think the llnp downplayed the whole abx scene to him and kind of made it sound like a walk I in the park for a few months. Maybe thst was her strategy to get him through the beginning.

I'm retarded, but.. slacking on probiotics doesn't really seem like such a good idea to me. I don't know.

I mean, especially when he's on all those abx, which.. I'm going to take a guess with my, again, poor mind that they're pretty strong.

Definitely should be on other beneficial "gut" supplements.

If he loses proper function there, it's gonna become a whole lot more than just treating for Lyme/co. It's gonna interfere with that as well. He'd likely have to stop treatment, or at least slow it down quite a bit, and focus on healing his GI system.

Really want to get this figured out. This coming from someone who royally screwed his guts up and is in a near hopeless situation.

Also, the abx are a double-edged sword. They're good, but they're bad, at the same time. Heck, even the people here will tell of you of the dangers - so, it's not just the doubters.

Anyway, just keep trying, I guess. All you can do.

Yeah, I should be forcing him to take the probiotic in front of me Everytime. Sometimes he'd grab one for the go, if he was goibg to be out. It's those days I think he slacked. I think he gets now I'm not nagging!

Is he having diarrhea everyday? If so, it needs to be addressed. The pain in the gut is concerning, too.

He might have to take his antibiotics with food.

Is he on anything for yeast/candida? It can cause stomach issues.

I had some acidity issues - causing acid reflux yesterday...and took the Alka Seltzer gold - it worked.
Today, everything is fine.

Do you have any of that on hand? if not, it's worth a try. Will change the acidity to alkaline.

My LLND also told me to try aloe vera juice.

Just a couple of suggestions.
