The results of the EliSpot-Tests are no indication for an actual cellular activity against Borrelia burgdorferi.
Explanation of antigens:

- Borrelia burgdorferi Fully Antigen: Borrelia b. B31-reference strain (Borrelia b sensu stricto)
- Borrelia burgorferi Peptide-Mix: OspA from Borrelia b. sensu stricto, Borrelia afzelii, Borrelia garinii + OspC native + DbpA recombinant
- Borrelia burgdorferi LFA-1 (Lymphocyte Function Antigen 1): Own body protein + Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (shared epitope). Often associated with autoimmune diseases: collagenosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, vasculitis. If positive or borderline positive look at: ANA, CCP-antibodies, ANCA.

Yes, it's a negative result.

This is the test Dr. C wanted you to have done - and is basing whether or not to treat on these results?

If I remember you had positive band 31 and 41 on Igenex IgG?


As I already mentioned in a previous thread - I am puzzled that he requested this.
I guess you didn't see the tick on you or a rash.
(Not that you need to in order to be treated - but just wondering)

I also wonder if the fact that your test result shows "1 unit" - on two of the tests -even though it's a negative test result - I wonder if the "1" means some response - like the IND on the WB still means a response - just not strong enough for a +

According to the lab, Elispot is highly sensitive and can detect even one single borrelia-reactive T cell in the sample. It's also very specific. It's being used a lot here, and many are testing Elispot positive even though they are negative for antibodies - usually because of chronic infection. I've not come across anyone negative for Elispot but positive WB - though, to be honest, I suppose those with positive WB aren't generally going on to test with Elispot.

So, if it's accurate - better than the WB - then why aren't the LLMD's using the Elispot to determine if we have LD or not?

ELISPOT is not a standardized test (also very controversy) and therefore the vast majority of doctors do not use it, or have not heard of it at all.
My test results are/were:
- ELISPOT for borrelia: 4-5 (positive)
- test of an IDSA-like doctor was fully negative
- WB of an ILADS-follower lab was IGM positive (P41 pos., OsPC pos.), IGG negative (p41 pos.)
- dark-field microscopy showed living spirochetes in the blood (garinii, and another species) along with babs, and bart

I did several other ELISPOT tests at infectolab. They were:
- ehrlichia negative
- EBV highly positive
- yersinia highly positive

So, the results in my case can be correct with high probability. This is my experience with this test (altough my other LLMD doubt the ELISPOT, and also that I have yersinia infection).
