Oh wow, I didn't think Lyme was sexually transmitted-how is that possible since the bacteria hide in the white blood cells? Except that the bacteria have been known to burrow into joints, ligaments, and Muscles. Hmmm.
The Lyme bacteria is able to move through tissues and even bones with their little corkscrew tails. They can get through the blood/brain barrier, which has holes so small that no other bacteria can get through as well - given enough time.
There have been case studies proving that Lyme can be transmitted sexually, as the live bacteria has been found in breast milk, semen and vaginal secretions. It's one way that whole families have been infected with the same strain, the other way is that they all were in the same place, at the same time, and all got bit by mosquitoes, ticks or other insects that carry these infections.
It's thought that once it's in remission the risk of passing it along drops significantly, but the risk is still there. This is the only part that hasn't been proven.
"“Our findings will change the way Lyme disease is viewed by doctors and patients,” said Marianne Middelveen, lead author of the study presented in Carmel. “It explains why the disease is more common than one would think if only ticks were involved in transmission.”

"Recovery of Lyme spirochetes by PCR in semen samples of previously diagnosed Lyme disease patients "

back in 2001: "Lyme spirochetes/DNA have been recovered from stored animal semen. Recovery of spirochete DNA from nursing mother's breast milk and unbilical cord blood by PCR (confirmed by culture/microscopy), have been found in samples provided to my office."
