Alinia literature for babesia treatment

Just started Alinia for my stubborn resistant Babesia Duncani infection. You typically take it in 3 day increments of 2 pills a day. I'm doing 4 cycles of it. Just finished my first round and its definitely helped so I'm encouraged. Note I took anti-parasiticials Mepron, Coartem and Tinidazole with moderate success but this appears to be doing better.

Alinia is effective across a broad spectrum of parasites which is exactly what one needs to treat Babesia. It is effective against gram positive and negative bacteria as well and has pretty much no side effects.

Wanted to share for those who are dealing with stubborn strains of Babesia as a possible treatment option. While my insurance covered it I've heard some won't and the pills are very expensive.

Good post. I hope it kills Babesia. It kills a lot of the things that many Lyme patients have.

i'm taking it every F,Sa,Su for 4 weeks then will re-evaluate with LLMD at next doctor appointment. normal regime is 3 days 2 pills a day of 500mg it's the # of cycles that's dependent on the individual.

I took Alinia with Rifampin and Biaxin for Bart. Was the most effective protocol I've been on. I'm surprised more dr's don't use Alinia.

Rikky1, you mentioned Tinidazole. Isn't that used in a cream for athlete's foot?

Can you take it orally? is it really anti-parasitic? Athlete's foot is a fungus, isn't it?

Sorry if I am confusing the info in this thread.

Tinidazole is an oral med that's anti-protozoal (and is also used for cystbusting)

the 'azole' class of drugs come in tablet and topical form for things topical as well. worth reading up on them as they treat all sorts of things. tinidazole in particular is effective against protozoans (babesia) and one study also showed it being effective against all 3 forms of lyme so you really get a lot in this one pill. typical dosing is 1 pill 2x daily. it can be pulsed (like i'm doing taking M,T,W,Th weekly).

Now that it's been a few weeks that you've been on the Alinia, I'm just curious how you're doing.

I also have what seems to be a stubborn B. duncani infection. Terrible air hunger almost constantly for 13 months now.

Do you have air hunger?

My llmd just prescribed alinia yesterday, 500mg 2x/day for 1 month til my next appt. Also taking IV zithromax every day, IV Flagyl and IV glutathion 2x/week, Bactrim pills 2x day. Not feeling very well.

Oh my you poor thing - that is a lot!! And heavy duty too! The flagyl probably would have killed me, but some people don't have a problem with it.

momoftres i took alinia for 3 cycles and then stopped due to it losing its effectiveness. it did seem to help initially as my head felt hot/flushed but that faded over time.

my doctor switched me from zithromax/tinidazole to zithromax/malarone. i'm also on cryptolepis and sida acuta. i think the 2 herbs are helping me not sure about the abx's.

alinia is something good to try if you've already done coartem a few rounds. that did help me.

i've been fighting babesia ducani for about 14 months now in treatment for 8. it comes and goes its a real stubborn ******!
