Thinking about ordering a Lyme test.

Hello all. I'm new here. I just started posting today in the thyroid and anxiety forums. Since I'm anxious and reading sites like this, I'm scared I have Lyme disease. I do have some of the symptoms, but just a few, and I feel they can be explained by messing up my thyroid medication as I felt ok before that. The testing confuses me, if it's positive then you have it, but if it's negative you probably still have it? It seems that's what a lot of people say. I have had all kinds of tests done (including three from Fry Labs- all negative) and they all come back negative except for thyroid, adrenals, and candida. I even had one done with my adrenal test that measured immune function and/or suppression and mine is normal. I know it's part paranoia, but I'm wondering if Lyme is my problem and not my thyroid and PTSD issues. How does Lyme relate to people with PTSD and resulting anxiety disorders?

Hi wompwomp - welcome to our community!

Anxiety is a common symptom of lyme and co-infections.

The testing is not accurate/reliable - the best testing facility is Igenex Lab in California.
You might want to consider having the Lyme Western Blot IgM/IgG done. It costs a little over $200.
You can order the test kit from Igenex...and take the lab req to a Dr. to have it signed...then get blood draw at a lab..and send back to Igenex.

I can't say if you have Lyme disease...as thyroid, adrenals, and Candida can produce some of the same symptoms. If you start treating those issues, then you can see what you are left with.

What are you doing to treat the Candida? You should consider doing that.

Also, what are you doing for your thyroid?

Welcome to our community!! I'm so glad you found us! Isn't it great to find such a whole host of forums like this!!

Girlie gave you such good information, that there is only a little bit left for me to give! :-)

I would suggest that you read through our "New to Lyme? Start here!", specifically about the symptoms that can be caused by these infections. If that seems to explain more symptoms than the thyroid, adrenal and candida issues alone could cause, then I would encourage you to follow up on the possible Lyme and co-infections. As Girlie said, those conditions often come along with Lyme for many people, so it's difficult to rule any of this out without some treatment.

We are here to help you find answers and provide support though. Please do let us know how we can best help you!

Thanks for the info. I treated the candida with diet and antifungals and I think it's gone. I did improve with treatment and also improved with thyroid treatment, but I stopped the thyroid meds and my thyroid is now kind of hyperthyroid after stopping and getting back on. I just started a beta blocker to see if that will provide some relief from the over active thyroid. I'm just paranoid about Lyme after reading about it.

That's the problem. I don't know if I should be or not. My current doc isn't necessarily a LLMD, but she said Lyme is very overlooked and is a major problem and she does test for it. She just doesn't think (based on my clinical presentation) that's what is wrong with me.

The fact that you have a doctor that is that aware of the prevalence of Lyme disease is awesome!! Congrats on finding her!! Even though testing isn't that good, I would encourage you to ask her to test you through Igenex - a lab in California. They have the best record for testing properly and it could give you an idea of whether or not you are dealing with Lyme - and hopefully a bit of peace about this.

In my opinion, you are wise to be this concerned over having Lyme. I lived with it for 40 yrs because no one thought to check.

I think I will get tested early next month. I'm really scared to find out if I have it or not. I'm already kind of a mess because of my thyroid and adrenals. I know I have problems with those. My previous doc had me on all kinds of stuff for parasites (some of which I think are used for Lyme) and I saw no difference except when using wormwood. I think I had a reaction to it, but it was also at the same exact time I had a very stressful event going on at work. I've had other similar instances where I reacted to stress much the same way while not taking anything, so I don't know if it was the wormwood or not. I've taken berberine, olive leaf, oregano oil, ivermectin, praziquantel, flagyl (had to stop because of raised liver enzymes), allupurinol, ozone IV therapy, vitamin C IV, and probably some more. To date, nothing has affected me like stopping the thyroid medicine did. Also, I felt worse on replacement hydrocortisone (low dose - 5 mg) because I have high cortisol. My adrenals are still making enough cortisol, they're just making it in the wrong pattern. The doc wants to get my thyroid and adrenals straight (and me to continue therapy for being abused as a child) and see where I am. She said some LLMDs that she has talked to said everyone has Lyme, and she said she didn't necessarily disagree, just that it doesn't bother some people and that a state of balance may be enough to keep it in check. She isn't too concerned about it for me, but I'm anxious and paranoid, so I am.

Also, the doc that had me on all the stuff for parasites was just trying stuff out. I had 3 tests from Fry come back negative except for "Few" biofilm like structures. No Lyme coinfections on the blood smears and no protozoan on the PCR. Stool test was all clear. He was just hoping something would work, and that's why I left. My new doc told me I was hyperthyroid and in adrenal fatigue before she even got the labs back.

Do not take steroids if you suspect lyme it can make it worse...with all the alt treatment i bet you stirred it up...you can find a practioner to check out your blood under a microscope , have them crush your cells at the end . You can see the spirochettes ! they can infest red a white cells alike.testing goes for 2 strains and there are many more types .also if you have had it for a long time your immune will not make antibodies to it. I think igenix can do a urine culture for like 30 days to see if it grows.I ordered samento and banderol and chased it blood stream with high dose c & h202. How long have you had symptoms? How are your joints back head etc? A spider ,mite or even mosquito.std. One guy here got it from a tear!

I've only had symptoms for about a year and a half. My joints are fine. Head is fine. My back gets a little stiff sometimes or I get a knot in it here and there. There have been long periods of time during the year and a half when I was fine. I started feeling bad recently because I stopped my thyroid meds and shouldn't have.

Also bluelyme, I've already had my blood looked.at under a microscope and had a stain done and there was nothing there.

Have you tested for cpn?..it is intercellular and has alot of similar symptoms. It is thought to be one of the infectious causes of ms . Once exposed it replicstes and spreads in your body.so igg may mean you do have it...
