You know what's funny ? That (Amoxocilin and Clarithromycin) was my combo abx for treatment of ......H-pylori. Among many misdiagnoses before Lyme, they've told me i have h-pylori and given me amox and clari, a similar dosage as yours, for 10 days. Lol.... That was the first time i have herxed (rapid heart beat, air hunger, etc...), i freaked out, thought i have some allergic reaction to one of the abx..... But after 3 days the "allergic reaction" went away and i started to get (for the first time ever - muscle twitches - toxins from the dead critters). Then i thought i am low on magnesium :) It is so funny when you look back at the whole thing...
I don't think it is a low dosage to start with (i mean a similar dose has given me a good herx), it will clear the infection in the blood, but yes it is totally ineffective for deeper tissue penetration, especially that amox is really bad at BBB penetration, so no chance to kick out the brain bugs... That's why i dont think amox is really a good abx for the spirochetal form. Tetracyclines are much better.
HOWEVER, amoxicilin is probably one of the best tolerated antibiotics that exist (that is why you can take 3g without having a toxic shock). When taking abx long term, toxicity always have to be taken into account, does not matter if you have the best and most efficient abx, if after a few months it will kill you before it kills them ....
