strange sense of smell and taste-anyone else?

I get these strange episodes where I smell things that are not really there. I had sniffed a jicama and it smelled like a cross between metalic and gas fume. I thought it was bad or rotten but then again this morning while eating a raspberry I smelled OR TASTED it again!!! It was quite scary cause I thought Id eaten bad raspberries; until I remebered last month when speaking with a neighbor, at my front door, when the breeze blew I smelled a gaseous/chemical odor and thought it was her! But then later that smelled it again....so strange.

Now that I think about it, this is occurring AFTER a 24-48 hr migraine with severe upper neck muscle tension along-with sinus pain!

Is it one of my MANY virals, Borrellia, or babs?

Yes I get it sometimes. Do you have yeast issues?

Not sure if this is related to your case or not, but for me, I had the strange smells and VERY strange tastes. Sweet things tasted bitter, etc... It turned out to be classic Bell's Palsy. Like the majority of people, I fully recovered in 3 or 4 weeks, including the sensory issues.

Yes! I am glad you asked this because I thought I was the only one! Started a month ago and gasoline is the best description. On more than one occasion I have had my husband come in the room and of course he smells nothing and says, "why would there be gasoline in our bedroom?" Lately when I brush my teeth especially. confused

Yes, I had that for months, it would come and go, fortunately not had that for a long time now, but I could smell burning and I would keep checking that the oven and hob were not on and looking outside to see if there was a fire, but I smelt it everywhere and all time, similar to when there has been a fuse and slight burning smell, it was awful, just pervaded my senses the whole time and everything seemed to taste smoky.

Yep! I had that for a couple weeks before I started treating Lyme. You nailed it, it's a metallic, burning, gassy smell and taste. This was before I even suspected I had Lyme and I was asking everyone if your sense of taste and smell get better as you age. It went away on it's own and never came back.
