Need a recommendation for a LLD doctor on Long Island or NYC or will accept insurance

Hope that you can help me... I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in June and once the 21 days of Doxicyclene was finished, I started feeling ill again and now have a daily sore, achy neck and shoulders. I need a doctor in the Long Island/ NYC ( or I will travel to upstate NY or CT) that is an LLD and will accept insurance. I recently called a recommendation of a friend of a friend of a friend, and the LLD in NYC did not accept insurance and charged $1,000. for the first visit! Help!

Sorry! my first time posting and thought that I had enough info to receive replies. I had called one LLD today in NYC and she wanted $1,000 for the first visit and wouldn't accept insurance. I hope that there are compassionate doctors out there who will work with insurance.

just understand it is not that they are not compassionate, my Dr is VERY compassionate. there is a fine line btwn treating lyme and going against the CDC - most of these doctors who treat alternatively kind of need to charge cash. It is more complicated than you might think. If you notice, my Dr's website does not state that they treat lyme patients, and that is all my Dr does treat.

Chapelle, just curious, do you know if is there anyone reputable who does take insurance? I don't know of any.

My LLMD is in Morristown, NJ and charged $300 for my first appointment in Sept. 2014.

I was impressed with his clinical skills but his care is nowhere near the level of the care Chapelle got from her LLMD. I've had to find my way after he took me off abx when I was at 90% healed. It's taken me almost a year since then to get to 98%.

At the time I asked, my LLMD accepted Aetna (not my insurance).

Would it be easier & perhaps easier w/ insurance to see an LLMD in Ct. I think i've seen posted that NY is especially hard on alternative care physicians?

Only if the person lives in CT and, if they don't, then I'd think they'd need out-of-network coverage...

Please know that most LLMD's don't accept insurance since many insurance companies deny coverage for needed treatment and are prone to persecute LLMD's.

Unfortunately, there is quite the political battle going on over chronic Lyme and its treatment. Thus, getting proper treatment often means paying cash.

At best, it seems we can get some of our abx and lab tests covered by insurance.

sarah, believe me, I have researched this not for myself but for others, but everytime i come across another Dr that could be considered, the Dr does not take insurance.

BVV I heard that colombia university medical has a lyme disease center, but I dont know much about it. Worth investigating in your case!

I've only heard negative things about Columbia, unfortunately. They call it "post Lyme" instead of chronic Lyme.
