Hi,
I'm new to the Forum. I noticed earlier (2011) postings on vertigo. I'm wondering if anyone has tried PT - vestibular rehabilitation, where they do specific physical maneuvers to redistribute the crystals in your middle ear to correct vertigo? I'm wondering if it works, since I can't seem to find anywhere what actually causes the vertigo in lyme patients. If the vertigo is definitely from inflammation, then moving crystals around probably wouldn't help. My LLMD says it's OK to try, but I've heard it can make the problem worse too.... Anyone have any direct experience with this? thanks. Our son has had lyme for 14 years with no relief of any of his symptoms.

I'm so sorry that your son has had no relief of any symptoms for 14 years!

I'd like to ask you a few questions - if that's alright.

How long has he been treating with a LLMD?
What protocol is he on now? Is he using treating with antibiotics or herbs...or both?

I personally don't have any experience/knowledge about the vestibular rehab...but hopefully someone will.

I also want to point out the thread at the top of the page titled: "New to Lyme?..Start Here!" It's full of good information - maybe take a look at it.
It includes a section on detoxing...which is crucial when treating Lyme Disease.

Does your son do enough for detoxing? Multiple methods need to be employed to get rid of the toxins that are created when the bacteria dies off.

You might want to add a title of your thread to attract more viewers?
Maybe something like: "Vestibular Rehab for vertigo?"

Hi Joyceesource! Welcome to our forum and I hope you find the answers you are looking for. Girlie has giving you some great intro info so I won't repeat it. Re: the procedure you are speaking of, I went to see an internal medicine dr when I was searching for answers early in my illness. I didn't have full on vertigo but experienced mild dizziness off and on and also a feeling of being off balance. She had suggested this procedure through an ENT and said it might bring some relief. I never brought it up to the ENT (forgot lol) so I can't speak for whether it helped or not. Maybe someone else can provide some info.

Quite frankly it's something that I just learn to to deal with because it is mild and doesn't happen for long periods of time.

Thank you. I'm hoping to find people who have tried this PT and can tell me if it helped.
My son is in between antibiotic treatments from Dr. Jemsek in D.C. He uses herbs and supplements plus the antibiotics. But he's too ill to continue at the moment. Has diabetes also and constant highs and lows are plenty to deal with.

We've tried other treatments - natural and another LLMD. We even used an infrared light under the tongue which was supposed to cause die off.

He is constantly dizzy and uses - depends on - a cane to stand up or walk. He's also nauseous 60-80% of every day/night. I was thinking that if we could get some improvement of his dizziness and nausea it would help him continue with treatment. Difficult to take herbs, antibiotics, supplements, when you are so nauseous....

Thank you for editing and adding a title. Hopefully someone will have experience with this.

I've had it done and it worked (made me very sick during the procedure) but I had Vertigo prior to having Lyme.

I have seen a lot of people post about having Vertigo on here but if I've asked them specific questions they really just have constant dizziness. Is your son experiencing the room spinning around him while he is sitting or laying still? That's what happen's when you have Vertigo.

The ENT I went to sent me home with instructions to continue to do the procedure at home and return in a few weeks. I never returned. Why pay for another appointment once you know how to do the exercise.

I hope this helps. If your son is just dealing with a lot of dizziness that's likely from neuro Lyme or Babesia.

I have chronic motion sickness where I constantly feel like I am in a rocking boat anytime I am out of bed. My ENT had me try vestibular therapy but all that did was make it worse. I lost 25 pounds and I am thin to begin with. After 10 months on antibiotics and a month on Cowden protocol I am slightly better. I have been this way for 20 months total. I am trying Ondamed Biofeedback Therapy along with the herbs now.

Thank you! Makes me nervous about the treatment our doctor is prescribing. Not sure how to find out if problem is from inflammation in ears due to lyme or from the crystal particles being in the wrong place, which is what the procedure remedies.....

I hope you find a treatment that helps!

Tiger - keep trucking try something else ...garlic mullen oil on ears kinda helped does mezcline help? Have you treated parasites ?

I am starting my third week of Vestibular PT. I do not have true vertigo. I lose my balance often when I stand up from a chair (the lower the chair the worse it is) or when I turn or pivot. For me, worse than these are that my foot does not always go where I want it to. The jury is still out as to how much this will help me. I have noticed some small improvement in standing still with my eyes closed. For me washing my hair in the shower always raised my anxiety level as I felt like I was going to fall.

I will try to keep you posted as to any other improvements.
