I am in to month 5 of treatment (bart, myco, possible lyme). I am treating aggressively now. Almost done my first month on Levaquin, Biaxin, Tindamax (3 days a week) and Plaquenil. The days I take all three the herxes are pretty intense- hanging in none-the-less! =)

I was just wondering how long these neuro symptoms hang around for. My thighs are probably the very first symptom I had (we are talking about 5 years ago). Is this something that I'll just deal with forever or does it indeed heal eventually?

The numb, stinging thighs could be from Bartonella, and since you just recently started treatment, it might be a while before you start to feel improvement.

I am in the same boat - my nerve pain is one of my first symptoms and although I have lost some symptoms, that one is still with me.
I think once the Bart infection is effectively treated, along with time, the nerves will heal.

I will take the joint pain over the nerve pain any day.

Nerves can take a very long time to heal.

My symptoms started with weird nerve symptoms....and I'm dealing with milder versions now to the exclusion of other symptoms. It does seem that the first symptoms to arrive are the last to go.

If you Google healing peripheral nerves, you'll find sites with supplement recommendations that can help.

I was kind of thinking that to myself- first symptoms will probably be the last to go (since I seemed to have let it go for so long).

Is there any explanation on why/how bartonella causes these symptoms?

Nerve issues are usually caused by destruction of the myelin sheath - the outer covering of the nerves. In essence, the nerves become "raw".

Please be careful. Not everthing is a herx.
The abx you are on are known to cause neuropathy (Levaquin and tindomax's biggest side effects are neuropathy). This is not a matter to take lightly.
Please do not dismiss this. I did and bow have permanent nerve damage.

ela9049 - I am so sorry this happened to you.

How long have you had the nerve damage from the antibiotics?

Hopefully that isn't the case with JAdam - as she stated it was one of her first symptoms - so sounds like prior to antibiotic treatment.

It was also my first symptom prior to any abx. I was on abx on and off for 1.5 years. Levaquin and tindomax's which JAdam is on are known to cause neuropathy. I think this is way too risky to keep taking. My friend had same reaction and also kept taking tindazole thinking it's a herx.
I now think any patient who has history of neuropathy should NEVER take those particular abx.

ela - if it was there before your antibiotics - did it get worse after antibiotics...is that how you know it was from them?

I have neuropathy - prior to treatment...but I did take Tindamax, as I didn't realize it could cause neuropathy.

Hi girlie we actually got diagnosed around the same time. Any medication can potentially cause neuropathy in a person who already has neuropathic issues. I was actually on high-dose amoxicillin and also did not realize it can cause neuropathy. I realized at one point when I started having severe ear pain that it was neuropathic pain in my ear and put the connection with my neuropathy intensifying in my legs at this point in my treatment it seems like no matter what I try it seems to make my neuropathy worse. shakehead

My neuro symptoms are from the infections themselves - Years before I started taking the levo/tindamax. My LLMD is aware of my situation.

I am only saying be cautious because these medications can exasperate the neuropathy situation.

ela9049 - neuropathy is a common symptom of lyme and confections - so are you saying don't take any medication?

I have read about the fluoroquinolone causing the neuropathy (sometimes permanent) - but not all antibiotics...and certainly not all medications.

PLEASE be careful with antibiotics such as Levaquin, CIPRO, Avelox. that class of drug can and does (I know) floxing. They are toxic and cause permanent damage, such as neuropathy and many others please research.
