First I would like to say that PeteZa gave you some really good advice to detox! What that doc is trying to do is get your body organs and systems to balance back out - this will create and move toxins, so detox, detox, detox. My TCM practitioner had to learn how vital it was for me to detox, so your practitioner may not understand this either.
I'm a MASSIVE fan of Chinese medicine and am completely convinced it was the only reason I healed the first time after 40 years of living with these infections. I was really quite upset that my practitioner had to close up shop and move out of state to take care of her parents as I'm left without another TCM practitioner in my area that is interested in the "whole art".
You are right, the differences between Western Medicine and Eastern Medicine are big! Eastern medicine is looking at the person as a whole, where Western Medicine has become "medicine of pieces and parts" - We have to go to a different doctor for each part of our skin, so no one doctor really sees us as a "whole" person. GP's used to be that way, and there are a few of them still out there, but not many in my experience.
In TCM, they feel for 9 different "pulses" and look at your tongue, and look at your skin tone, and note all the little things they see and it goes into the diagnosis and determination of what the treatment should be each time they do this.
I really don't know too much, but if I can be of any help, I'd love to be!
