Anyone ever taken doxy w/ amoxy

From what I understand (boy could I be wrong) that amoxy decreases the effectiveness of doxy.

Pharmacists know their stuff. I think you should call the doctor and tell the doctor what the pharmacist said and say "I wanted to bring it to your attention because it worried me."

You don't want to get either of those guys mad at you, so be gentle.

My LLMD had me taking doxy and amox.....and then Doryx (delayed-release doxy) and amox...both without probenecid.

I often had my doubts about him and was floored when a recent thread addressed the fact that doxy reduces the levels of amoxicillin the blood

Sure enough, Dr. Google revealed not only that fact but, the fact that amoxicillin reduces the levels of doxy!!!:

Kudos to the pharmacist - mine clearly dropped the ball.

This has been the story of my life with these infections despite my efforts to be proactive.

That's why I'm still treating 20 months after the tick bite.....and I had no symptoms after the tick bite but developed a few mild ones after going off the 3 wks. of doxy my PCP prescribed for me after the bite.

Isn't the doctor receptive to ILADS guidelines? The guidelines Dr. Burrascano wrote list abx recommendations and doses:

I so hate having to check up on what a doctor does. Scares the poop outta me.

What were the doses of the meds prescribed?

Maybe hubby can take the amox + probenecid one month and the doxy the following month....or alternate weeks. LLMD's do pulse abx.

With all the antibiotic combos - and information in the internet...there's really no reason to pair those two together...there are a lot of options.

Thanks, cd - I have been checking everything all along - actually now I prepare myself before my appointment - with options...and suggest them to my LLND. I guess i'm not that trusting...had a lot of bad experiences with Dr.'s in my life time.

It's really sad that we need to do that...though. We should be able to trust the Dr,'s know what they're doing for crying out loud!

Yes, Chapelle - I remember you mentioned something when they prescribed the same thing for my son. So I had that in my head and then the pharmacist flagged it. My husband is already reluctant to treat, and he is the type that needs to follow a doctors orders exactly. Basically all in or all out. So now he doesn't want to treat. I am trying to convince him to take the doxy with jap knotweed and then hopefully we can find a better doc this summer.

This is one of their standard protocols and I have not asked them yet. I think my husband is going to send a message and let them know the pharmacist questioned its effectiveness.

I took 3000mg amox per day (1000mg 3x per day) along with Doxy and then Doryx.

I keep reading that people taking amox should also be prescribed probenecid to help keep amox in the blood stream longer.

The drug interaction checker sites are pretty much telling us that the doxy is lowering the probably too low levels of amox in our blood.

I'd be curious to see some medical references for what Lyme Pickle shared. It would be very comforting for me personally.

Still, I herxed quite a bit on doxy/amox but I think I should have healed more quickly overall. My LLMD ignored my coinfection herxes and didn't treat me for any. Even though I sought treatment the day after I pulled the tick out of my abdomen, my care has been convoluted and I believe my infections were allowed to fester. Most of us sing that tune in some form or another.
