Please remind me. What is initial treatment for tick bite. Doxycycline how many days how many mgs and dose.

Per page 19 of the ILADS guidelines he wrote in 2008:

Dr. Burrascano recommends

A MINIMUM of 200mg 2x daily doxycyline for 4 wks. after a tick bite.

If there's a rash, the treatment is expanded......and extended until sign/symptom free for one month with a minimum of 6 wks. therapy.

We all know that ILADS extended the sign/symptom free recommendation to 2 months.

Thank you. My friend along with 3 others yesterday were put on it for 21 days. I don't want them ending up like me and so many others.
We live in upstate NY and the ticks are REALLY bad already.

Happy to help. And, your friend along with the 3 others are very fortunate that you are Lyme-savvy.

21 days of doxy failed me...and I didn't have the rash.

45+ days of doxy failed me. I did have a rash.

30 days of doxy and biaxin did not work for me! I did have a rash.

4 weeks of doxy 200mg per day after a bite didnt help me

You guys who are saying the treatments didn't work for you--are you talking about treatment early after an infection?

As my signature indicates, I started treatment with my PCP the day after I pulled the tick out of my abdomen.

100mg 2x daily doxycycline for 21 days wasn't enough

And, I had no rash and no symptoms....just the tiniest red pimple where the nymph deer tick was embedded (but not engorged)

I am still treating and it will be 2 years since the tick bite this coming July...

That's so scary, cd3764. There are so many things that play into it, though. I don't know if there are statistics re percentage of ticks that carry more than one pathogen, but I'd imagine it's high. And if we're infected by more than one, does that increase the necessary treatment length? Not to mention the fact that many people, like me, are infected with Babesia at the same time as they're infected with Lyme, which isn't even affected by Doxycycline. Fortunately, it seems like the Lyme issue is about to blow up and finally receive some priority attention? At least I hope it is.
