Tick bite in June 2015, started with LLMD in August. A variety of ABX since, IV Rocephin and Doxycycline 200mg tablets, December through March. I felt like I was 75% better at the end of the IV treatment.
I was kept on Tindamax (pulsing) along with Artemisinin SOD, Magnesium and Nystatin. Started the Tindamax 2 weeks after quitting Rocephin. I felt like every day my head was building pressure. After 2 weeks I was back to 50% recovery due to the headaches and brain fog. My LLMD had me stop the Tindamax to see if it was causing issues. It has been over 10 days and I am still dealing with the head issues.
I have been to Neuro for MRI and EEG, no results yet, he gave me Topomax but that made things worse.
Anyone have similar symptoms, treatment suggestions? I think my LLMD is leaning toward herbal protocol next but that was when I was at 75%

I am not good on these antibiotic questions.
However if I went down to 50% after being 75% I would be asking questions too. I would be wondering why, if I was improving, things got changed? Doc better have good answers or he would be fired. lol

Out of curiosity I googled "rocephin and headaches" and the first 5 results say headaches are a side effect.

I so dislike headaches. I hope you find relief. Headaches stink.

Hi jdm99 -
I am so sorry you're suffering those painful headaches. I've been on Rocephin (Ceftriaxone) for 16 months. My main reactions to it were the headaches but also psycho-neuro craziness... it was the toughest symptom I had to work through. I'm pretty much past the herxing with it by now but have had some crazy herxing with IV Vancomycin that I just started. With any of these abx that cross the blood-brain barrier and hit infection in the brain, you're likely to have headaches as a reaction.
Just this weekend I had 3 different types of headaches at the same time - a dull pain on the top of my head like someone had hit me with a 2x4, a pressure pain at the back of my head like I was lying on a pillow of concrete, and stabbing pains throughout the top right side of my head. It was excruciating. I drank lots of water, took my detox herbs and my binder - and this helped tremendously.
There are a few possible reasons for headaches w/ the Rocephin:
The dead debris and toxins are trapped once the abx hits them until they can be released so detoxing is critical. What are you doing for detox? A binder is very helpful to pull the toxins out of the gut and there are some good herbs to help detox the brain - I use Pinella and Parsley quite successfully.
You also might have a little swelling too - Japanese Knotweed is good for swelling.
Headaches are often triggered simply from dehydration and abx can be naturally dehydrating - so drink copious amounts of water throughout the day, have it next to your bed at night. Embrace the additional trips to the toilet - peeing is very detoxing.
Another culprit of headaches is yeast/fungal overgrowth - the y/f creates neurotoxins including acetaldehyde and other toxins that cause headaches. You mentioned you were on Nystatin - if it is the pill or liquid form, it's pretty weak and might not be a strong enough amount of the Nystatin (they are manufactured with mostly fillers and a little bit of Nystatin) so you might not be on a strong enough dose. Do you have any other symptoms that might indicate an overgrowth? If so, try switching out to Pure Nystatin Powder 500,000 units (let me know if you'd like more info to share w/ your LLMD).
You probably need to step up your detox as best you can but you are also on a pretty intense quantity of abx. You might also talk w/ your LLMD about
stepping back your treatment if the headaches continue much longer. A minor herx is to be expected as we incorporate new components of our protocol or increase doses, etc... but major herxing and for long periods is not conducive to healing - you have to measure the pace at which you are targeting the infection with how well you are able to flush the debris out of your body and try to match them both. Sometimes it takes a little experimentation with both.
Hope this is helpful - let us know if you have any other q's -

I've pretty much had the headache throughout my treatment, subsided toward the end of the Rocephin IV program. It seems to intensify with the full moon. then goes back to being a nagging I know it's there type accompanied by light sensitivity and intermittent brain fog. I am self employed or I would have been fired for the screw ups and do overs lately. Downside is I lose money everytime
I drink plenty of water, guessing 140 - 150 oz.each day. I have tried the epson salt bath, no herx from that. Currently am doing Alka seltzer gold almost daily. I will look into the Pinella and Parsley
