Hi Beeperoni,
I have had the air hunger as well, going on 1 year or so but not nearly as bad as you mention. I'm reasonably fit, 34 years old, 155 lbs, never a smoker - and when I started noticing that climbing a flight of 10 stairs or even just reading a book or singing a little song to my daughter at bedtime was causing me to gasp for air I knew something was up. I've only been on abx for about a month and the air hunger is barely noticeable now. I might have noticed myself gasp for air once or twice in the past couple of weeks vs. multiple times a day previously. I have no doubt that the abx helped. I've been on a bunch of supplements and herbs prior to the abx but had no noticeable benefit from those. I'm on doxy, rifibutin, plaquenil, tindamax and naltrexone. For some reason I notice that my best days are when I'm on rifibutin which I cycle 5 days on/ 5 off. I tested negative for Babesia, but now I'm being re-tested and awaiting results as the LLMD felt fairly strongly that I would have it due to the air hunger issues.
Since I've started treatment I've had several really bad bouts of chest tightness where it felt like I couldn't breath (but I still could). The only thing that helps me is to take a muscle relaxer and lay down and do some breathing exercises. I hadn't had these bouts prior to starting the abx, so I'm thinking it's probably stirred something up.
Anyway, I wish you the best.
