Trying to decide between Doxy or Mino- which is better and gets more intracellular?

Hi,

So I'm starting a treatment course now of Rifabutin, Zithromax and either Doxy or Mino. I was going to do either 200mg of Mino every other day or 200mg of Doxy every single day. I was wondering, which one gets into cells better and stays longer? I believe my pathogens are in my cells and not in my tissues much as I have no pain whatsoever anywhere in my body and no brain symptoms, so scratch that advantage for Mino.

On testing, my Ehrlichia and Bart antibodies are very high and I have heard that Doxy hits Ehrlichia better than Mino does? I also have asymptomatic Babesia and some other parasites which Doxy would hit better than Mino would? My RBC stains on Fry Labs shows that my RBCs are oval shaped so that could be from parasites...I really think my problem is more of a blood-borne one and not so much a tissue/joint/etc one...

So do you guys think based on my situation i should do the Mino or the Doxy? Thanks!

I would do Doxy first. Like you said, the Doxy will hit Ehrlichia and anaplasma better than Mino. It's one of the reasons Doxy is front line defense for early Lyme infections.

If you have Babesia, neither Doxy nor Mino isn't going to do much by them selves. You'd likely need some atovaquone, coartem, larium, or clindamycin plus quinine.

I would do Doxy, and add in artemisinin, sida acuta, and/or cryptolepis for babesia in the mean time.

Mino has longer half life ...but both will make the sun really hot ...keep us posted

Doxy was horrible for me in the sun..but Mino was fine.

Mino penetrates the blood/brain barrier better.

But, as Mustard Seed said - doxy is recommended for Ehlrichlia and anaplasma better.

I would do doxy for a couple or three months and then switch to minocycline.

Mino helped my 'head' issues....pressure behind my eyes and my off-balance.

I'm going back on it as my 'head' issues seem to be reappearing...sigh.

Thanks for the replies guys. Luckily I have no brain issues so Mino's big advantage is gone on that one. I'm gonna do Doxy I think. It's summer now in Texas and its scorching- Zinc Oxide sunscreen is supposed to protect from powerful UVA rays as well, right? I've read that Doxy makes the skin ultra sensitive to UVA rays which most chemical sunscreens fail to protect against.

Also- is 300mg of Doxy a day a good "compromise" dose of bactericidal effect without being too harsh on my gut/system? I am also taking Rifabutin for suspected Bartonella and also Zithromax.

I slathered on the sunscreen and within 10 minutes - driving to town..I was burned on the backs of my hands.

But, I was okay on mino.

I wouldn't do less than 400 mg. daily. Sandwich it between food - that helps.

Echoing what Girlie said...

For me, if I didn't take Doxy with a FULL meal, I puked it up 20 minutes later.

And by full meal I mean an actual meal, not a handful of fruit or a granola bar.

Girlie, which sunscreen did you use? I've read that you need protection from UVA specifically to prevent Doxy burns, and most chemical sunscreens aren't good UVA protectors- you need Zinc Oxide [physical block] for that?

Mine was SPF 40 - broad spectrum protection UVB/UVA - but maybe it wasn't enough UVA in it..?

I've just been reading that we shouldn't be relying on sunscreens...they can be carcinogenic...oh great.

We should be using physical barriers...and zinc oxide is one..

So, it didn't protect me when taking doxy, that's for sure.

So, floridadude23 - sounds like you're right about the physical block....I guess you would need to know - living in Florida!!!

Per my LLMD, I did 3 weeks of Doxy 100 2x a day, then 2 weeks of 100 1x and 200 1x day, then 3 weeks of 200 2x a day then 4 weeks of 100 1x a day then switched to 200 minocycline 1x every other day, then added Tindomax a week later also pulse. Still on it, 4 months later and still herxing a bit after I take it (mostly neuro symptoms). But I'm at 90% still (fingers crossed it stays that way!!)
