Since this thread is a bit old, does anyone have any recent updates? :)

Well, that was August, 2014...when the thread was started.
My LLND treated me with lyme only antibiotics starting end of Aug,2014 right through to April, 2015. At that point i had to take a break due to high liver enzymes.

(It was too long on lyme antibiotics - should have started Bartonella treatment after a few months in my opinion)

So, after 2 1/2 months off antibiotics, I started back up again...with minocycline, then added Rifampin.
Did that combo plus Buhner's herbs for a few months, then switched the mino for biaxin. Stayed on Rif and biaxin for a couple months...and then took another break for little over a month.

After the break, I went to a pulsing approach M/W/F - Rifampin and Biaxin and Ceftin on Th/F.

I did not get to symptom free after the bart meds. So,now am pulsing Artemisinin (4 on, 10 off) and on the 10 off am pulsing Rifampin and minocycline.

Terrible peripheral neuropathy and several bad spasms after returning from a trip to Aruba the beginning of April. Had sooo many tests done and everything came back fine. I thought I was going crazy with the tingling in my fingers, toes, left calf and face. Went to a neurologist, no help. Could not find cause and just wanted to put me on pain medication! I refuse to be Zombie Mom and he seemed to have no interest in finding a CAUSE. Finally, thanks to a friend who is a nurse practitioner, got a "kit" to get a lot more things tested including the Lyme tests they don't do normally. My friend was taking about co-infections and I researched each one. Bartonella's symptoms matched mine exactly, especially with the neuropathy. I called her and she called the lab and added that to the tests. Sure enough, after 2 plus months, the report came back positive for Bartonella. I just started Zithromax and am hoping it knocks it out. This is SUCH an under discussed disease and to get it without Lyme too is apparently very rare. I had been in Aruba so assuming I somehow picked it up there but trying to figure out how I got it.

Bartonella is one of the common lyme coinfections. Can you get Bartonella on it's own? yes, but generally, in health individuals (healthy immune function) it is self-limiting...the immune system takes care of it.

So, it's possible you have something else with it - eg. Lyme.

If the Azithromycin alone isn't/doesn't work...you should consider seeing a LLMD. Usually complicated cases are treated with at least two antibiotics at a time.
And often Rifampin/Rifabutin is needed.

How long is your Zithro prescription for? And what is the dosage?
