Embarrassed but scared, blood in stool

This morning I had a "normal" bm, no straining - and there was a lot of bright red blood that was in the toilet... I initially thought I got my period, but it certainly was not coming from there.. Along with the blood I could see one random possibly worn like shape in there - I have not been good with eating veggies this weekend & haven't had celery in over a month so I don't think that was food related.. Could it be a parasite?? (I took pictures... Never thought I would be saying that, ha!)

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS & also have endometriosis (on top of lyme, Bart, babesia & many other co's) & candida. I am not on any ABX - only minimum dose for A-Bart drops - I have known detox issues that I am seeing a ND about this Friday (my timing is impeccable ha!)

The only variable I can think could be related.... I had intercourse last night. For the first time in a long time I actually enjoyed it and was not in pain. I had a dermoid cyst removed from my ovary last November, during that surgery my doctor found a lot of endo growth - most on my left side (where the colon is).

I'm nervous for 2 more hours, then I want to call my LLMD & see what he thinks... But can anyone put my mind at ease and tell r what this might mean?

You do need to have it checked just to be safe, so definitely call your LLMD, but I have had that happen many times over the years and it was hemroids. They will often cause bleeding which is bright red. Generally when there is blood up higher in the colon it would be a tar like stool.

You could indeed have parasites, however blood can also be stringy so that would be my guess.

Hi Denikeef - thanks for your reply. I called my LLMD and spoke to the nurse, I am waiting for either her, or my doctor to call me back. I basically said I wasnt sure if its a "problem" or a one time thing, until i have another BM.

Is it possible to have hemroids and not know it (i.e., internal?) I do not have any pain or discomfort - so I wasnt thinking hermoids. I did have a LOT of polyps removed a year ago during a colonoscopy.. I have not seen that gastro doctor, since he ASSURED me I do not have lyme...... I guess I better start looking for a lyme friendly gastro just in case.

Hi Eagle, yes you can have hemroids and not know it. But you may want to look for a Lyme friendly gastro. Your LLMD should be able to answer those questions for you.

For myself I haven't had bleeding for awhile but I know when I have it would usually happen a few times before it quit so don't be alarmed if it does. =)

Denikeef gave you some great advice and I just wanted to add that a fissure or a little tear could be causing the blood also.

Red blood is not the scary kind, like Denikeef, it is the black coffee ground blood that is scary.

I agree - get it checked out...and try not to worry in the mean time.


The color of the blood only indicates how high up it is in the colon...not how serious it is.

Any bleeding in the lower part of the colon (sigmoid colon) - will be red (no matter what the cause)It could be hemroids or fissures.
It will only be black if it's higher up.

Thanks Questing - You are right - its not to be taken lightly, i will certainly get it checked out. I know I had a lot of polyps and inflammation in my sigmoid colon that the gastro dr could not figure out the cause (bc he is a lyme denier) he diagnosed me with IBD - but never treated me in any way. I take digestive enzymes from another doctor (functional, lyme believer) im going to call the LLMD after I finish eating my lunch, since its now been 3 hours now that im waiting on a return call... usually he calls me back sooner..

On the lighter side of my scary scenario - I never thought I would even have these two items on my bucket list, but I get to cross them off today.

1.) waking up my husband to have him look at my poop
2.) having pictures of poop on my phone!!

You have to find the humor in everything, right?? its the only thing that keeps me going - i cant take this stuff too seriously or i would just cry all the time!!

im not sure if its a 'roid, there was no blood when I wiped and no discomfort.. now im waiting for the charcoal pills to pass since i cant really tell with those, if there is red blood.. took the charcoal about 5 hours before the first bloody stool; taken charcoal in the past, dont think its related - just coincidence.

im worried that my un-treated gastro problems might be to blame... i'll be following up tomorrow with my doctor to see what labs or tests he can run to look into this further since i cant get into see a gastro (every one I have called is booked up through the next month).

eagle - I think there can be 'roids higher up...that you may not feel.

Please let us know what the Dr. says.

minor update - more blood today.. just like Monday... so I am sucking up my pride and seeing "Jerk Gastro Doctor" just because he can see me TOMORROW.

My mom reminded me that I now have a CDC positive lyme test - so maybe he wont be as much of a jerk as the last time... Its going to be hard to keep my anger at bay, but I am more concerned about ME than I am about HIM, so I should be OK!! (im getting better and better at managing these appointements as I go on, if only this could be something to put on my resume! ha!)

I also just realized that I will be seeing FIVE doctors in the next 7 days - someones gotta have an answer for me! hah!
