I just had a very large cup of green tea. I have all my herx symptoms flaring (ringing ears, internal vibrating). Anyone ever have this? I've been googling and people say that green tea detoxes. I know its part of Buhner's Bart protocol. I also read that it burns fats, and since Lyme and/or toxins are stored in fat....

Green tea has caffeine. Have you ever had problems with caffeine before?

Yep, there is caffeine, very minimal....less than black tea, but given that it works on babesia, it could invoke a response.

i drink a ton of organic green tea daily and have never had any reactions to it. an epsom salt bath on the other hand causes all my symptoms to exacerbate. everyone is different so if you are herxing on the green tea its obviously doing something.

I have been wondering about Babesia...I've got severe hot flashes and night sweats also. I still get the sore foot upon standing, so I think I'm still dealing with some Bart. You are right about everyone responding differently to things!!! I seem to herx on everything these days. The bath is the only thing that makes me feel better. Thx, guys.

I'll third possible Babesia. Have you take Crypto lately or do you have some to experiment with?

Ya, I have Crypto and Alchornea. I stopped taking them about a month ago...thought I might experiment and see if I was done with Babs. I was on them 6 months. I guess I will start back up again and see what happens.

Just a thought that could help some of you have a different way of using the Green Tea. What I do with my Green Tea is put the bags into my hot bath. I'm not much of a tea drinker and it works for me. Anything thing that you put on your body, your body absorbs 60% of it. So it has been beneficial.

Of course, I do add Epsom salts into my hot bath with about 24 different essential oils in, but only when my water cools down a little do I add it in. Don't know what I would without my essential oils because truly believe that they have kept me going. It is something that the same year I pulled the tick off of me, I started using the oils. They have totally been helping me, but I have to be consistent and stick with using them. If not for them, I don't think that I'd still be here because my Lyme is chronic and I've never been treated with abx. I have two co-infections to go with it-Bartonell and Babesia. My adrenals, thyroid and hormones are all messed up because of the Lyme. I truly believe that is where it come from.

It seems that since I've been using the tea, the essential oils, it has given me a boost of energy.
One more thing that I must say is totally amazing to me that I started using back on May 1st is doing oil pulling(Coconut oil). IT has given me a new lease on life and caused me to be more active and out of bed. Hopefully, some of these tips can help someone. I've been checking you guys tips out too and maybe they'll help me. :)

You do 24 essential oils? Wow, that's a lot. i sometime use EO, but only a few at a time.

Oil pulling with coconut oil has been discussed on here before and many members do do it as part of their detox...i was doing it for awhile....and then stopped. I really should add it back into my regimen.

Since you're not treating with antibiotics, have you chosen one of the herbal protocols?

I have a completely different perspective. I used to drink green tea every now and then (I generally don't do caffeine) and it would always make me feel crappy. Never understood why... didn't drink it a whole lot to be really impactful. But then when I started treating lyme & co I was drinking a lot more tea to help detox and my reactions to it were even worse so I stopped, not knowing why it was happening.

Then I got into my DNA mutation analysis. Sure enough, I have a mutation that prevents my body from metabolizing green tea really well. Same with grapefruit (which makes sense now.) But my body likes caffeine. Go figure.

Great. So, what I did (many others did this too) is run your data through livewello.com (I've forgotten all the details but they are a consortium of researchers and students who developed these programs that provide info on your data. There are various groups of programs (detoxing, heart health, circulation, digestion, neurotransmitters... I forget all the categories) I can dig into my "reports" and try to find which one responded with the green tea info - will take me awhile. I ran over 200 reports. It's a little addictive. ;)

Yes, I have done livewello and have generated some reports. I would love to know the Green tea gene report you ran!

Both my parents say they can't drink green tea, it gives them a stomach ache, but I never had that problem.

I have been herxing without any abx or herbals and tried to figure out what caused it. I had a cup of green tea the last two days. Glad I found this post. I herx on anything that boosts the immune system.

SUMMARY(-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is the major tea catechin and accounts for 50-80% of the total catechin in green tea.

(-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, and anti-trypanocidal activities.

This report describes the inhibitory effect of(-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate on the in vitro growth of bovine Babesia parasites and the in vivo growth of the mouse-adapted rodent babesia B. microti.

The in vitro growth of the Babesia species was significantly (P less than 0.05) inhibited in the presence of micromolar concentrations of EGCG (IC50 values=18 and 25 muM for B. bovis, and B. bigemina, respectively).The parasites showed no re-growth at 25 muM for B. bovis and B. bigemina in the subsequent viability test.

The drug significantly (P less than 0.05) inhibited the growth of B. microti at doses of 5 and 10 mg/kg body weight, and the parasites completely cleared on day 14 and 16 post-inoculation in the 5 and 10 mg/kg treated groups, respectively.

These findings highlight the potentiality of (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate as a chemotherapeutic drug for the treatment of babesiosis.

I've had mild herxes to green tea. It's not too bad if I drink it consistently, but I will get a burst of sweats which I don't get with other teas.

I do have babesia so I suspect it is having some effect on that. Wish I knew how effective it is, I've only been drinking green tea consistently for about 1 or 2 months. I hope that it will have helpful benefits over the longrun. At this point I suspect babesia is the infection that's holding me back from remission, I'd like to do what I can to knock it out but I herx like crazy when I directly target it with things like malarone.
