JEMSEK EXPERIENCE

Can anyone share their experience with me please. I am going in August, concerned if I can even make the flight--hopeful he can help me. Thank you!

That's good to hear that you are on a mission to heal. I don't know off hand any members currently seeing Dr. Jemsek, but if they are out there, hopefully they will respond to your inquiry.

In the interim, however, I would suggest that you read through the new to Lyme information as there may be some nuggets or pearls that you can use right now to help you. Also there is a search button, where you can search for "jemsek" to at least see what has been previously posted.

I know a few people who've seen him, generally good reviews. And one of my fb friends is currently seeing him, she is very knowledgeable, intelligent, and well-versed on borrelia/coinfections. She says he is great, albeit expensive. Her word goes a long way with me.

The one thing I've heard is that he is extremely aggressive with treatment, works well for some, but for others it might be too much for their bodies to handle. I'd say if you can afford seeing him it could be a solid option, he has a lot of experience treating these infections.

DK is seen by Dr. J's pediatric person. We are satisfied so far and are seeing progress. As mentioned, because Dr. J is open with being an LLMD, I will post some information for you. We consulted with DS as to the path he preferred to start with and he chose Dr. J's method. There are few pediatric LLMDs/clinics in our area and many parents in our area have seen their kids have best success there.

They have certain methods (pulsing with gradually extended breaks for immune strengthening) and generally stick to it although our person has been very receptive to use of certain herbs and supplements (they do recommend/"prescribe" some as well) and seems well-versed in what they've seen work and not work. I can't imagine that they do not incorporate new evidence based protocols as they surface as all LLMDs seem to think outside the box.

It is true that the clinic sees patients from around the world, across the US and from our area. There are not enough LLMDs to serve patients and because of his renown he could probably hire many more practitioners than he does and still have a months long waiting list. I do think they say that patients will not always see Dr. J but generally do every few appointments. We always see the same practitioner because it's pediatrics. It is my understanding that he trains them all (some, like ours, have also been trained by other well-known LLMDs) and I know that he works directly with ours on DS's case if DS's practitioner has questions/concerns to share with Dr. J.


They probably told you to plan on a follow up visit which I think is 6 weeks or 8 weeks after the first one. Be as complete as you can on the paperwork and submit it ahead of time because they do read it all. My tips would be: take your own symptom list with you to the appointment. Start a binder to carry everything and bring to first appointment. Figure out what lab you will use for bloodwork. Bring any medical records that might be relevant. Write up your list of questions before every appointment.

Our practitioner is very matter of fact and is not a hand holder at all. Perhaps that is because DS as a teen boy and responds better to that. It is okay with us but may not sit well with others. That could be personality-driven because I hear Dr. J is pretty warm himself.

Appointments are every 3 months once you get past the first 2. If you have any issues, eg reaction to med, herxing you need help with or new symptom causing lots of trouble, you call, leave a message, get a call back from a nurse/notetaker who passes on your case to your practitioner. Then, depending on the severity/business factor, you get a call back from that notetaker with instructions on what to do/change within 24-48 hours. Generally we get the first call back the afternoon of the morning we call in. I have never had to recall in with the information as we have always had good follow up.

I don't but others from my Lyme support group do and have (I live near DC). Many no longer come to support group bc they have made excellent progress with him. Others are still treating. But if you have the $ he is an excellent choice. His protocols are aggressive so be prepared.
