Bioreference lab ok? Or IgenX only?

I think my son has lyme. His pediatrician wrote a lyme script for the labe and is sending him to Bioreference. I have an appointment for my son with my LLMD, Dr. R., but that appt. isn't until December, although they are trying to get him in if there is a cancellation.

Do you think Bioreference lab is good or should I call my LLMD and ask them if they will do his blood work BEFORE his appt.? He uses IgenX. It takes three-four weeks to get the results. If he does have it it is chronic. I think he may have had it for several years and just had different symptoms that I hadn't connected until I got lyme and started learning more about it. Thanks.

I've not heard of Bioreference labs as being a good one to use, but that doesn't mean it isn't.

Watch this thread for a few days and keep it bumped up so that others see it, as this is a holiday weekend and I think many are not on the forum this weekend.

Thank you. Will do. I have a feeling it is on par with Quest/Enzo. In other words they do volume because insurance covers the test, however, not always an accurate read. Wonder if best to just go the IgenX route since I will be asked to do that for him anyway. Would rather have the results at time of appt. Guess I could do the free test and if that comes out positive great. I sound like you now - how can it be good that it is positive? LOL!

If you know you will have to do Igenex anyway, I would encourage you to go ahead and get that started. As you may know, it takes a while to get the results back as they take the appropriate amount of time needed for this testing.

It's good if it's a positive because at least we can name the monster we have been living with!!

My feeling exactly although these lyme bills are piling up. I wish testing wasn't so expensive for such rampant inaccuracy. As always, thanks for your guidance.

I haven't heard of that lab either.


I'm in the same situation. A new LLND has asked me to test with a Canadian lab that I hadn't heard of for babesia.

I may do it...($125) The only reason I am thinking of testing is because if I get a positive Babesia, i have my 'proof'. No one so far is willing to give me a trial of a Babesia anti-malarial...and I want to know if that's what's holding my back from full healing.

So frustrating.

Yes that is frustrating. Lyme IS frustrating! I would do it for the reasons you stated. I like the idea of 'proof' there is something settling in it. I am going to do the IgenX route for my retesting and for my son. At least if I get false negatives I'll know it's the best lab.

Girlie please keep us posted. We are all in this together.

THANK YOU! Ok I will use Bio for my son since they accept my health insurance, see what the answer is and go from there. Appreciate you responding. I'll retest myself with IgenX. Oy the lyme maze.

If it's covered by your health insurance, then no harm done, right?

...and good idea to retest with Igenex.

My LLMD uses Bioreference for all of my blood tests except lyme and coinfections. Bioreference actually draws my blood for the lyme/coinfection tests, but they send the blood directly to Igenex.

There is an option on the Bioreference lab sheet for an "Igenex draw."

But, without asking the LLMD, it may only be a good lab for C6 testing is the problem.

I'll call LLMD and lab in morning. Sounds like I can get both us drawn at Bio and then tested through IgenX. I'll first see who they send to on our insurance.

Did Bio draw and then test sent to IgenX? Happy to mirror whatever Dr. H does? Are you in upstate NY?

Daisies, thanks for the well wishes. I feel like the worst mom - I found two ticks, both on ears (one in ear, second behind ear) within a year. I saved ticks and had him tested. Everything was negative. This was six-seven years ago. Now piecing all the odd symptoms together. I know YOU get it. Am definitely not complaining. Not sure how you keep it together. I cannot imagine my son doing the diet, protocol and all you have to do to heal. I guess they just do it right?

The blood was drawn at dr. H office. They sent some tests to labcorp, a few to bioreference and coinfection tests to IGeneX.

I'm in NC. Make the long trip to NY.
