Thank you Traveler! I actually did get my cortisol checked wit saliva before I found out I had lyme (was working with a naturopath on some hormone related issues). Oddly, the night sweats and waking didn't start until they switch my meds to doxy from amoxicillin. I'm on a break from the doxy (herx was too severe) and I'm still having trouble at night. My cortisol did come back a bit low...not sure what I can do for that piece of it.
I feel some days like I need a team of doctors to handle all of my issues! :/
Now that you have "laid it out" like that, it's likely you are still herxing. Try raising the amount of detoxing you are doing and try the Epsom salt/peroxide bath or foot soak in the evening to see if that helps you sleep.
MA - have you tried Ashwagandha? It helps to balance the thyroid and adrenals, rather than just working on lowering cortisol levels, which would leave you with too low of an amount of cortisol throughout the day.
And you may wish to try Lidtke brand tryptophan. It's the only brand I've ever used, and it helped me get off the Ambien. My doc said, although I'm not sure just how true this is, that Lidtke brand processes their tryptophan differently than the other companies. All I know is that it was a really good thing for me - and I take 1500 mgs at night. That also may make a difference for you.
