Thanks so much Girlie and LymeMother for your responses--I can't tell you how much I appreciate the sympathy, support and suggestions.
I only have a few minutes now, but will write more tomorrow.
Girlie- On your advice about doing a morning dose in addition to an evening dose, right now, my mother and I are thinking about doing one of three things (I'm going to have to get up early and research this more)
1. We try 1/2 of the .5 pill (.25), and then stick with the 3/4 in the evening that she is used to. (but then, I guess there is the worry about the doses being equal)
2. Or we try 1/2 of her evening dose (which has been 3/4 of the .5 pill, so I guess .375), and then the same in the evening. But my worry here is that she has been used to the 3/4 in the evening for the past week (and the whole pill for 5-6 weeks)--I'm a little nervous about the switch down by 1/2.
3. Or we try 3/4 in the morning and 3/4 in the evening. But here we are worried about adding an increased overall dose of 3/4, which will bring us up to 1 1/2 pills (total of .75 instead of .5 where we started originally). It does make me nervous to up the overall dose.
And my thinking is that after next week, we taper down by just 1/8 and stay there for two or more weeks.
Also, I'm thinking that we are going to have to take a break from fighting Lyme, since the tinctures are based in alcohol. I was already nervous about it, but now even more so. Maybe we can switch to Hansa center's Borrelogen b/c I think they sell a version based in ACV.
And Girlie- thanks for sharing what happened with your father--what a horrible nightmare for all of you to have gone through. We certainly intend to be careful about who we get to help us. We are hoping that maybe if we get the twice a day dose worked out that maybe things will be easier. My parents will run our plan by the LLMD on Mon. I'm assuming that my sister wont get as locked into the morning dose, since it will be new.
I really don't know what way is best.
I don't think #3 is good....as you say - increasing the overall dose to more than what she started with.
I'm thinking #1 might be best. Even though it's not the same dose as the evening - it should still be better than what she's doing now...because she's got nothing in the morning....and probably feeling that. Although, it is still upping her dose to 1 1/4 pills (so 1/4 pill higher than originally)
(If I'm doing the math right)
You should keep her at the 'new' dose for minimum 2 weeks...maybe even 3-4 weeks before dropping it again.
I think going on a forum and asking others who have been through the weaning process is a good idea.
How long was she on the Trazadone? There's the withdrawal from that as well....so going slowly with the reduction of ativan is important....
