Strange bruising on inside of wrist

Hello, all. I woke up yesterday and found I had a strange large bruise on the inside of my left wrist . Now, I am on blood thinners, so I do bruise easily. This one looks particularly large and angry. It's also sore, like a bruise.

My question: Are bruises that go along with Lyme disease, Bartonella, etc. painful and sore to the touch? I thought I recall reading that they are not. I have a picture, but I don't know how to post it.

I use to get just frequent bruising on arms, thighs and occasionally on my torso; and an occasional red/brown blood rash mostly on my arms. Mine never hurt. Now I get mostly just the red/brown rashes, and a rare spontaneous bruise mark.

I originally thought the bruising was from Babs, but later linked them to Bart, especially the rash marks from damaged blood capillaries.

I got some strange bruises - didn't remember bumping into anything. What was peculiar is they did not hurt at all...just showed up.
...and what's even more strange...took forever to go away...I mean many weeks - they were still 'blue'.

I have one of those bruises right now on the 'front' of my bicep, up very high in what is a tender spot for me if I hit it on something - so I know I didn't do that at least!

I used to also notice all the time that at my wrists, where the veins are often visible, that the entire area was blue. This could happen in other areas, but the area on the inside of my wrists were always blue.

Bartonella is much to blame for my issues like this. It causes inflammation inside the veins, which cause them to 'swell' or bulge and often cause a blue hue to be seen in areas where the skin is pretty thin naturally.

Sometimes, I get these. Though, mine are very small, about the size of a quarter or less, and are almost always a purplish-red color.

I never remember bumping into anything, being hit, etc.

This is the bruise that popped up on the inside of my wrist. Like I said, it hurts, as if I bumped it somewhere. I am on blood thinners.

Wow - that's some bruise! You'd think you'd feel that when it happened...

When is your next LL Dr. appt.? You might want to bring in the photo...

Right?!!!!! I didn't, but it's sore. I see Dr. P on the 20th. I'll definitely bring these, perhaps even email them to him before.

Girlie, good point. I have an appointment with my doctor (PCP) on Tuesday. I'll bring the photos.

I agree that it needs to be checked out. My husband is on blood thinners and has to test his blood weekly. There are many foods and herbs that will effect how well the blood thinners work. Many foods and herbs will increase the effects.

I would encourage you to try to remember what foods you've been eating lately (look for foods high in vitamin K, lists are available online), and the herbs and supplements as well as medications that you have been using lately.

Hi, Traveler. Yes, I'm very careful with what I eat. I don't have anything with vitamin K. (I am switching over to Xarelto, though. You're able to eat anything and it won't affect your blood thinning.) And there's been no new foods added to my diet. So I'm stumped. The only thing that makes me feel that it is an injury is the fact that it does hurt. Like I banged it somewhere. Of course, as Girlie said, you would think I'd remember that. But I can just lightly bump myself against the table and then I'll have a huge bruise the day. after.

Yep, my hubby has bruises all the time where he barely hit something (particularly his lower arms, hands and lower legs) and ended up with an impressive bruise.

I hope the med change helps you, but do keep an eye on things, just in case.

If the bruise continues to look "fresh" (staying dark/spreading) rather than the typical color changing and fading, please get in to see your doc right away. You literally can not be too cautious about continued bleeding when you are in blood thinners.

Just wanted to give everyone a follow up. I went to my doctor, and he freaked out when he saw how big the bruise was. He immediately had me get an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that there was no blood clot, no damage to any veins, etc. It was perfectly normal.

The bruise has gotten bigger, but is fading. I've taken photographs so I can show my doctor when I see him on October 20.

Hypercoagulation is common with lyme and proto...some meds reduce the amount of platlets ...one of my first clues was easy brusing and thrombocytopenia indicated by labs ...heparin can do it also ...bee venom thins blood asprin just makes it slippery ..spontaneous can be itp...idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpea ....which in latin -means we ****ed up and gave you a med that is messing with your clotting ability and your are purple now ....
