Wife's adrenal fatigue journey 6 weeks in

So wife was diagnosed with Lyme and also Stage 3 adrenal fatigue (little cortisol). She's on all these adrenal supplements and also some stuff for lyme. Her primary symptom is fatigue all day long. She's just exhausted and sometimes just cries she's so tired. She's worse in the morning when she wakes up.

It's been over 6 weeks since her adrenal supplements and frankly they don't seem to be doing much of anything. It's all natural stuff she also have a very strict diet (no alcohol,sugar,caffeine,gluten) and does all the 'right things'.

I know adrenals can take a long time to heal but shouldn't she be seeing some progress? I'm also wondering if Lyme is having an additive effect. Appreciate any insight here. Thx.

Thanks for posting this..I am literally on the EXACT same boat. Have had Lyme for a long time + adrenal fatigue with abysmal cortisol levels.

I just started my antibiotic regimen a month ago along with many other supplements to help adrenal fatigue. I think it's working but VERY slowly...some things have gotten better some things are still iffy/unchanged. I am currently taking Adrenal Complex, 7-keto lean, ashwagandha, a multivitamin that has a NAC/ALA/CoQ10 combo in it, and valerian root for sleep.

So far, what seems to be the most noticeable help has probably been the ashwagandha/valerian root combo. I feel like I sleep a bit more soundly throughout the night on it (I used to wake up constantly before), so at least I'm a bit less tired throughout the day when I get a better night's sleep.

Also, has your wife checked for thyroid function/iodine levels? My Iodine level was also non-existent (thyroid problems tend to go hand in hand with adrenal function), so I am taking an Iodine supplement as well. But my inability to lose weight/constant muscle fatigue is still pretty ragey, I'd love to know if anyone else has done anything else for that?

Yes the adrenals can take quite awhile to come back to acceptable performance. Is she taking an adrenal glandular or is it all herbs? Unfortunately it can take anywhere from 6 months-2 years. It all dependens on what you take, how much, ongoing stress on the body, etc. All things considered as the cortisol levels are going back up she should begin to feel better, but obviously if there are ongoing stressors it's going to take longer. And we are all dealing with different levels of stress (bacterial, viral, mental, etc).

Some people choose hydrocortisone (physiological dosages...very very low) as these can work quicker. But even at those small doses there are other things to consider.

thanks both. yes she also has thyroid issues so she's on armour thyroid. she's on all sorts of adrenal boosting stuff and also iodine supplement.

I was having similar issues and after the 2nd round of blood tests, my armour thyroid had to be increased. I cannot function without it. It is normal to feel worse before you feel better and after that to still have bad days/weeks. Hope this helps.

Your wife sounds a lot like me. I've been wondering if my adrenals are not functioning well anymore. I'm just so tired all the time. Can't get through most days without a nap or two. I know I had adrenal fatigue after having my 2 babies 13 months apart and hardly getting any sleep for a few years. Took an adrenal support and 7keto which I still take but it doesn't seem to help anymore. My muscles feel so weak too. Sorry, I'm not of much help, but do relate to your wife's symptoms...

Rikky - is low dose cortisone an option if the adrenal supplements don't help? i realize steroids aren't recommended with lyme, but a low dose may be helpful.

Oh - I just re-read the posts...I see that Krimpet already mentioned cortisone.
