Lyme research

It is a shame that so many people are still getting Lyme. I feel that some research about why it has become so common recently would help prevent more people getting sick. I have donated to some of the Lyme groups in the past that say they give it to scientists, but it seems that most of it does not make it to the scientists. Does anyone know if I can give it directly to a scientist? How to find one researching why Lyme become so common? And how to donate to their research? Thanks in advance

I think Eva Sapi group was looking for money to buy a very powerful microscope that would enable them to see ....better at some other stuff.
Anyway...I feel is best just donate to the straight source without going to different groups.

The only doctor researching anything to do with Lyme that I'm aware of where any monies donated go directly to the project is Dr. Alan MacDonald - but he's trying to fund a DNA probe (So far found to be 100% accurate) for diagnosing, not finding out why Lyme is so common.

I do have my own opinion on that though. My history says a lot. I was misdiagnosed for 37 years, and during that time, I gave blood and was bitten by many mosquitoes and other insects - which go on to bite other people/animals, which spreads the infections I had even further. Now, multiply that by how many Lyme patients there are, and you can easily see how this would get out of hand quickly!!

I really don't believe I can successfully describe it accurately, and especially not today! LOL! I know that it's a DNA test using the FISH technology. Here are some links that may help with the explanation:

I have been reading this board for awhile (it is really good information for me) but I just joined because I became really interested in this question when both my kids got Lyme several years ago and I wanted to add my thoughts. There is a professor in my state that researches this question. One of the groups I attend had him give a talk about this - he really gets it and explains it really well so that everyone can get it. Anyway, my husband donated to his research and he got a note explaining what he was going to do with the money and then he got the work published last year and sent us a copy (which I did not understand as well). I still felt like we contributed to making it better for everyone and he seemed really grateful and it seems he does a lot with the money. So it was a good experience for us and we donated again recently.

I also wanted to say that I'm sorry both of your kids had Lyme, and am curious how they are doing now as well?

Oh yeah, sorry. He is Dustin Brissom. My husband said he donated on his website, which is this web.sas.upenn.edu/brisson-lab/, but I dont see how to donate. Maybe you have to write to him. I hope it helps.
Yes, my kids are ok. We are lucky because it was just a few years ago and the dr here sees it often in the kids here. It was scary though.
