I was wondering how long an
open bottle of tincture stays effective. I have several bottles of Woodland Essence tinctures that I was using before my doctor switched me and now wants me to go back on them. It's been about
8 months so I am not sure if I should just buy new tinctures. Any thoughts?

Loutucky, it probably also has to do with how they were stored...i.e what temperature. I would just call the manufacturer and ask.

I never thought about
calling. Thanks JoanJet!

When stored in a cool, dark place, tinctures last years, even in an
open bottle. The alcohol is a preservative.

Thanks Traveler. They are all alcohol tinctures and quite expensive.

You should have no trouble with them. It's only if the herb is still being stored in the tincture and the herb gets exposed to the air that you have to worry about
mold. Tincture strength remains the same for over a year generally, maybe longer.

Traveler, you are absolutely correct. I called Woodland Essence and they said that the tinctures are perfectly stable in alcohol and were still good even after 8 months since
opening. I am so happy!!

Yep! But I'm glad you called them to verify. It's always best to verify information you find online - we are all human and make mistakes!!
