Positive Multiplex PCR

I recently tested positive on the Igenex Multiplex PCR serum plasmid but negative for the serum genomic. I was negative on whole blood tests.

I was negative for all bands on the IgM and Igg western blot except the 41 band.

It's my understanding that the PCR tests are incredibly specific and usually negative because it's so hard to culture borellia DNA from blood.

Is it possible that this is a false positive or cross reacting with something else? I can't find much information online regarding the efficacy of the Igenex multiplex test.

I don't know about the multiplex PCR - how does it differ from the 'regular' PCR test?


I think the reason people don't usually test through pcr is because of the high false negatives.
But, if it's positive....it's positive.

I recently tested positive for bartonella via blood pcr (not Igenex)and was told I definitely have active infection (by the lab, as well as my LLND)

I believe band 41 can cross react with EBV (please correct me if I'm wrong).

But if you are positive for Multiplex PCR serum plasmid, then I guess it's positive. Not an expert on this test but it seems logical.

I believe it's actually detecting the dna of the bacteria...(PCR)


No it's band 31 that some think could react with EBV.
Although, Dr. Horowitz includes band 31 in his lyme specific bands. Says it's RARE that it's from a virus.

Band 41 is a flagella - could be from something else - syphyllis is one infection

Thanks for the response guys. Ive been on antibiotics for over two years including IV dapto, doxy, cefuroxime
Combo. It would be hard to believe anything could be cultured from my blood but then again I'm not better so something is going on.

Thank you for the clarification. I'm happy I got all STD test done as well, so I know my band 41 is lyme (funny but not funny lol)

Welcome to the club. After a year of bartonella treatment I tested positive for bart via pcr - blood.

I actually was happy I tested positive...otherwise I may have prematurely stopped treating bart.
I was starting to question if I needed to stop it and focus on Babesia solely.
