I've only been on Rifampin and Azithro together for 16 days. At first it felt lethal to me, but now I don't feel anything. It definitely helped and cleared some symptoms, but it stopped hitting hard.

Wondering, just a cycle? Should I hit the biofilms? Switch Azith to Mino?

Add back all the Buhner herbs?

16 days is not long enough to gauge if it's working....you should stick it out for a few months at least - IMO...

The only question I can answer is that about the Buhner herbs.....they shouldn't be stopped and that's per Buhner himself.

Most of the herbs he recommends help undo the ravages of our infections - they stop the cytokine cascade/ reduce inflammation, heal the organs under attack and remodulate the immune system.

Yeah. I did them for a long long time. I stopped them because I couldn't get a clear read on which would be interacting with Rifampin in a negative way, and since it's a frontline antibiotic I wanted to try it alone.

Listening and caring - I didn't go the anti-biotic route, so I can't advise. What is a long long time for the herbs? Curious.

I would say first go was a year, got me to 80%, and then maintenance for a year, and then half of this year in combo with Abx. I only stopped when my doctor said give Rif a chance.

My LLMD protocol sheet says you should give every abx 4 weeks before changing to another.(if you don't feel like you're benefitting from it anymore. He has rif listed towards the end of oral treatment and for Bart.

Considering the cycle of these infections, I would stay on your combo for another 2 weeks and if you are still at a plateaus, move on to something else.

Clarifying, I don't have an LLMD, my Internist printed off a LLMD protocol sheet for me.

Great. I think that's good. I'm going to slowly integrate herbs and other stuff.

I don't understand why if you were only 80% you would then go to maintenance dosages on herbs?

Buhner says do not stop until all symptoms are gone for at least 2 months.

Maybe you stopped the herbs too soon???

Started to think 80% was as good as I could get and it got hard to keep up and live a normal life?

Oh! I agree. You shouldn't have stopped the first time around unless you weren't able to use an LLMD and couldn't get any more abx, or unless you were having too difficult of a time with them.

Were you seeing an LLMD when you stopped?

Yes, to be fair, I didn't drop herbs entirely, I just didn't go as hardcore. Honestly I don't remember well. I just know I was well enough to live a somewhat normal and athletic life skiing daily! -'d then I hit my head and it all came on back.

Bartonella can take a long time to treat....so 16 days really is too soon. I wouldn't call that a plateau. I would give it longer..and then you could switch the azithro for mino.

What are your doses of Rifampin and Azithromycin.

300 Rifampin 2x a day an hour before food, and 500 mg Azith 1x with food.

That is the usual dose.

Your improvement in 16 days is really early.

When I first started my Rifabutin/Mino/Bactrim 4 days on/3 days off regimen I felt probably the best ever for about 2 weeks. After that it all fell off the cliff and I haven't been able to get to that even for a half day. Who knows how these stupid infections react I guess all you can go by is how you feel. I would love to switch to something else but I've burned through all the front line Bart options.
