Hello.

Just trying to figure out where we all got bit in Cali. I had NO idea ticks were an issue there. Apparently, they are a big issue there.

I was bit in Lake Tahoe during a summer vacation. I am pretty sure I was bit the day we did the hike at Echo Lake. We hiked both lower and upper Echo. We stopped for lunch on the side of a small lake. That is where I believe we were bit.

I'm not exactly sure, but I live in the Bay Area and was bitten there (I'm assuming, since I don't know exactly when it happened. But ticks are definitely a problem in CA - I think they're a problem everywhere, even if people aren't aware.

My son got a tick bite from the local playground. I sent in the tick for testing, and it was positive for Lyme. This is not a heavily wooded area, it's a playground near the community center & pool and has a grassy area. I would have NEVER thought taking the kids to the park could result in Lyme Disease.

I don't think there's anywhere that's "safe" from them.

Inyo Valley, just south of Mammoth Mountain area (Bishop/Big Pine/Lone Pine). That was back in the early 1970's too - before Lyme was "discovered" on the East Coast in the 1980's.

Most likely in Sonoma County. I was always under the impression that ticks didn't live at high elevations. Have never seen one above about 5000ft, nor in the California desert, both places I frequent, guess I was wrong about that. There's tons of them around the bay area though. Though I never saw a tick or noticed a bite in late spring 2016 which is when I'm assuming I must have been infected.

Let's not forget that ticks are not the only way we get Lyme. Mosquitoes and deer flies have now been scientifically proven to carry and pass Lyme on to people, and mites, bed bugs, spiders and other insects have anecdotal evidence of passing these infections on to people as well.

Placer County about the 4,000 foot area. I'm closer to 80 than to 50 where you were bit.

Last spring, one of the vent screens to the crawl space under the house gave way and a mama racoon had her litter under the house. It took about 4 weeks to get them out of there once we realized they were there. I was getting some little bites around that time that I figured were tiny little spiders or fleas. They looked like flea bites and it he'd for a few days. I didn't think much of if it at the time. I wonder if those critters crawled up into the house somehow and infected me.
Lyme indeterminate, positive bab and bart.
Time to call Orkin.

And to add a little more fun to the mix (ha ha ha - not!), fleas are a common carrier of Bart.

We had a whole family of skunks move in under our house!! It lasted 3 days - then there was a marital spat and someone got sprayed - directly under MY bedroom at 2 am one night!! I was NOT a happy camper, and we called the "critter removal guy" to come help! 23 skunks later, we were finally rid of them.

I live in Ventura County and our house backs up to open space. I work in LA County off of Malibu Canyon in a very forested area and know lyme infected ticks have been found down the road, but I have no memory of ever being bitten by a tick since I've lived in California. Growing up I lived in the Ozarks and would often find a tick attached to me, but that's been almost 40 years ago.

Vanessa - I did just opposite of you - I started out in Calif, and now live in the Ozarks! I just traded one set of bugs for another. LOL!

I think far more people carry Lyme and are asymptomatic than understood and these folks can pass it to someone else just by swapping spit.

Lyme and its buddies are a pandemic at this point if there's any doubt the study recently where over half the US counties were verified to have ticks with Lyme Disease should settle it. That doesn't mean the powers that be will do anything about it but similar to AIDS its only a matter of time.

I'm with you Rikky on that point.

To take it further, the Health dept. when they called me to tell me I was pos.(RMSF), that I could actually infect ticks or other bugs that weren't already carriers before they 'bit' me, and then they in turn could carry the infection to others.

That's how it is with all of these infections, which is why we should not give blood or donate organs either.

I wouldn't fight you on that at all today.

I don't remember what her exact words were before that, but it was her reply to my question I asked her because what she was saying at first made me thing I'd be put in "quarantine" or something akin to that. I was incredulous and asked her "Am I contagious"??!! So I got the poor innocent healthy bug story and how I could infect others.

Anyway Rikky, I think I only infected one person. Well, knowing how well traveled bugs are, maybe not. skull

I lived in Arkansas...around Bull Shoals, Mountain Home...and oh yeah and when I lived there near "The Black Oak Arkansas" compound!
