Interested in knowing the main herbs included in Buhner's current core protocol? Is it just Japanese Knotweed, Cats Claw and Andrographis? Or am I missing a few other herbs?

If you can't purchase the book at the moment...I would go by the website...it's not as comprehensive though.


1. Japanese knotweed root (Polygonum cuspidatum)
• Powder: 1 tsp – 1 TBS of the root powder 3x daily. Start at the lower dose and work up, OR . . .
• Tincture: ¼ – 1 tsp 3-6x daily, OR . . .
• Tablets (Green Dragon Botanicals): These are normally labeled as resveratrol on the bottle. They are in fact knotweed root standardized for resveratrol content. (Note: Don’t use grape resveratrol; it won’t work very well.) Some comments on tablet dosages below:

2. Cat’s claw bark (Uncaria tomentosa)
• Powder: 1 tsp 3x daily, OR . . .
• Tincture: ¼ – ½ tsp 3x daily, OR . . .
• Tablets/capsules (Green Dragon Botanicals): 1–4 500 mg tablets/capsules 3x day.

3. Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata)
• Capsules: Begin with a small dose and work up. I would recom­mend 600 mg (1 capsule) 3x daily to begin with, for one week. Then, if there are no side effects, increase the dose to 2 capsules 3x daily. Please check the side effects on this herb: Unpleas­ant allergic reactions can occur.

4. If you have neuroborrelliosis, add: Gou-Teng (Uncaria rhynchophylla)
• Tincture: ½ – 1 tsp 3–6x daily, depending on severity of brain infection.

5. Collagen support protocols (see book) are often essential, as well.



That will get you started...but you really should consider purchasing the book.

Hello Girlie! I do own the book but its a bit complicated in interpreting what I need to buy...Do I need to incorporate the collagen support protocol in order to achieve success?

not everyone does...but those that do say it's important.

One product is Biosil.

Biosil is expensive, IMO. If you can afford it, great. A less expensive one is this:

This is a powder and it mixes with ANYTHING. I put 2 heaping spoonfuls in my coffee each morning. I can't taste it at all.....

Personally, I think collagen is very important.

Here is a quote from Dr. Rawls' book --

Cell types that Borrelia can infect include white blood cells. This enables the microbe to catch a ride to established sites of inflammation, such as arthritic joints. There it will find abundant collagen, its favorite food source, already broken down and ready to be scavenged.

ResilienceR, just go to chapter 8 of Buhner's latest book. I didn't read the first 7 chapters for a very long time. My lyme brain just could not do it.

Chapter 8 will give you the core protocol. And it mentions the cytokine remodulation. That is really important.

If you can find a good online herbalist they will sell tinctures for every single plant he lists. I asked a similar question to you and the overwhelming support was for tinctures to start with; easiest to use and means a low dose can be started with and increased slowly overtime. Then move onto powders/fresh herbs/DIY tinctures, etc.

Thanks, Peetza! I've been wondering about Callagen since I read that quote in Rawl's book. Just didn't know where to buy it. But also in the back of my mind I'm wondering if I put more collagen in, will I be replacing or feeding the Lyme? Lol Dumb thought maybe.

By the way, Resilentr, Dr. Rawl's book, Unlocking Lyme , is easy to read even with brain fog. He is a gifted writer who takes all the material out there and puts it into a format that breaks things down for the reader. It's not in competition with the Buhner book. Just a great companion to it (not an herb Encyclopedia type book) It will help you understand and explain to people a lot of the idiosyncrasies of Lyme. And right now it's 2.99 on Kindle and 10 something for hardcover. It's a special promotional. He just did a webinar. You can find it on YouTube. I'm not sure it will stay this price.

The core protocol listed is the same as in Buhner's most recent addition, just massively oversimplified. Not really sure what's confusing about it ?

I don't think the books are confusing either, it's just you should really try and spend the time reading from start to finish and a lot becomes clear. There's a lot of deep science and about 60 pages at the back of the book is a list of reference, because there are people always wanting to debunk men like him and so everything he does has to be evidence based as best as possible. The lyme protocol is smack bang in the middle and very easy to follow.

I also bought William Rawl's book a few days ago but had trouble trying to get it onto kindle, so haven't been able to read it yet.

My LLDO was surprised when I showed him some of the herbs for cpn. He said "where did you hear about those? Then I had to clarify, Buhners website. It's not what the book says. And he's read the book So there are differences.

Buhners book can be technical. So if you have brain fog or low stamina to keep plugging away, it's totally understandable!

Munkra, call Amazon. They are helpful for this kind of thing. I had trouble once and they did something to make it work.

Someone may be maintaining it...but he is still involved...he answers questions in the Q&A section of the site.

I would think that he'd be privy to all the information on there and if he wasn't happy with it...would have it changed. That is just my opinion.

Yes, the books are the best to use...but there is a ton of good information on the website as well.
