Abx's for the first time....what to take???

Hey Everyone,

I've done herbs for almost 1 1/2 yrs. I'm starting the Buhner protocol after being almost better then relapsing hard for the past two months. My doc took me off the herbs??? No idea why, should have stayed on well past symptom free.
We discussed possibly starting Abx's. He said he would prescribe Mepron and Bactrim to start??? Does this show I have a competent Doc? Do these sound correct??? Please advise. These don't sound like Abx's I normally read on this site???

Yes they are known medications for lyme and co's.

The Mepron is for Babesia (it's an anti-malarial med), and the Bactrim is used for lyme/bart/babs

Were you given instructions on how to take the Mepron?

It needs to be taken with fat.

Bactrim is a doozy..maybe very effective ...not everything is a herx ...it sparked some kind of vasculitis for me ..
mepron depletes coq10 and can cause severe depression..
sounds like he wants to hit babs first..which seems to be current practice...you may want to add zith as a third if you are tolerating it..also some antifungal measure (nystatin)(diflucan)and 100bil pbx at minimum .

blue - is it true that we're not supposed to take CoQ10 when taking Mepron?

Hi, definitely not supposed to take it if on Malorone or Mepron.

P 153 of "How can I get better" by Dr R.H says:"Avoid taking CoQ10 as vitamin supplement while on Malarone or Mepron, as it can interfere with its clinical efficacy."

Doxy used to be the "go-to" antibiotic for Lyme... and for acute infection it is still often prescribed.. but it can cause the bacteria to change to cyst form...more so in chronic Lyme cases I think.

Has your LLMD mentioned Babesia to you?

That is what Mepron is used for...combined with an antibiotic.

Hi. Was wondering...my natro suggested azrithromyacin... This plus herbals. What do you all think of that?

Was on Amox plus the herbs.

If your doing herbs is one antibiotic good?

Thanks thought this was on topic and I'm needing to decide on this. I'm currently just targeting Lyme but wouldn't mind getting the rest of the monsters out.

Monotherapy isn't recommended - best to be on two abx.

I don't know if taking herbs with one antibiotic changes that.

You will need something besides the Zithro if you're targeting Bart or Babs with Pharma

Helpful thread - I'm reading the book the dr recommended and another I found, and trying to decide whether to start with herbs and then add antibiox or just do both. I think he will lean one way or the other depending on how I feel after this month of restricted diet and detox.
