So per my LLMD, I started Tinidazole yesterday. I'm already taking 750 mg of Ceftin, and after some initial Herxing, and doing OK with that. I will get up to 1000 mg/day, but for now he's good with me on 750 mg. I added one, 250 mg of Tinidazole yesterday with dinner. OMG. Literally 10 minutes after taking it, I felt warm and flushed, like I was going to have a panic attack. I felt very shaky, unsteady and dizzy. My arms felt heavy and a little tingly. It's 12 hours later, and I'm still feeling it but not as bad as last night. I feel like I'm drunk. Like my eyes can't focus on anything. Didn't sleep at all last night, and it doesn't help that my daughter woke up at 4am sick.

I left a message for my LLMD (they're not open yet). But is this normal? These are all new symptoms for me, and frankly I'm scared to take it again. I'm supposed to pulse 3 days on, 4 days off and eventually build up to 1000 mg. I think that would kill me.

Just looking for some insight from people familiar with the drug or who have taken it before.

Tinidazole can do that to you, as it opens up the cysts the bacteria are 'hiding' in. My first experience with tini was awful: I was pulsing 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, and the whole 2 weeks I was on tini I felt literally hungover, the feeling was identical to the one you get the next day after drinking way too much. Now (5 months into treatment) I'm pulsing 4 days on, 3 days off and now I feel OK most of the time, apart from slight nausea and constant bitter taste in my mouth (but that is just a side effect of tini).

It's probably just a pretty nasty die-off reaction - bacteria come out of the cysts, Ceftin kills them, dying bacteria release toxins and you just feel... well, intoxicated. It should get better with time, as there are less and less bacteria to kill. Hang on!

Another important thing: herxing can make us feel like we're dying, but in most cases it's not as bad as we feel it is. Contacting your LLMD is a good idea though, I hope his reply will reassure you that you are going to be just fine. Also, sharing your first experience with Tini might convince your doc to cut the dose a little for some time, or build it up more slowly to adjust to your reactions.

Yeah, I probably just need to suck it up. It's just really scary to feel like that. I don't think they come in anything less than 250mg, so I just took the lowest dose possible.

I'm detoxing like crazy, so that's probably helping. But it still sucks because between times I add something new, I feel good. Like darn near normal. Then I add something, and I'm crazy sick again.

This isn't a herx.

According to the Tinidazole monograph, the medication doesn't reach peak plasma concentrations until 2 hours post-ingestion. There's no way you experienced die-off in 10 minutes.

Did you take any alcohol the same day?

Tinidazole mixes really bad with alcohol. It's called a disulfiram-like reaction, and what you described sounds exactly like it.

Haven't had a stitch of alcohol on 6 months. Only thing I drank yesterday was water.

No tinctures with alcohol as well?

Ahh I thought I had a mystery solved :p

Sounds like a bad reaction then.
See what your doctor says about it, unfortunately I never had anything like that in my 3 months on Tindamax.

The fist time I took Tini it hit me hard in my gut about an hour after taking it. I was on a two day a week pulse. The gut pains lessened with each week passing.

Its pretty powerful stuff and also anti-parasitic.

The only tincture I take is Core Sarsaparilla, which the same doctor recommended, so I doubt they would interact. He's a good doc, and I trust him. I also don't even think I took it yesterday because until this happened, I was fine.

Hmm ya.

Even if it didn't cause this reaction, you'll want to check the bottle and see if it's an alcohol tincture.
If it is, and your taking any more than a few drops, I think you'll probably want to avoid that while you're on the Tindamax, or potentially find a glycerin alternative.

I take alcohol tinctures while I'm on tinidazole and I've never noticed a bad reaction that could be specifically caused by mixing them together. The tinctures contain 20-25% alcohol and I take 440 drops of them every day... And it is my LLMD's idea to take them together, so I trust it's not gonna kill me, lol.

Just heard from my LLMD. He thinks it was a "histamine allergic response," and doesn't think I should take it. He's going to review all my stuff and get back with me on a different medication to use in it's place.

I was also thinking that it was too quick...it wouldn't have even been fully dissolved in your stomach in 10 minutes.

I thought maybe it was a herx from your other meds (someone else had mentioned an allergic reaction) - and it just coincided with the time you took the Tinidazole.

I think it's wise that your Dr. stopped it.

I posted about Herxing bad with the Ceftin. We slowed that down, and now I seem to be handling it OK. I went to adding one pill (250mg) a week. I added another pill on Monday. Today I am feeling a little flu-like, but it's manageable. Had the same exact thing, on the same exact day, after adding a pill last week, so I think this is just a little Herx from upping the Ceftin.

Last night though was totally different. It's just too coincidental that it happened so shortly after taking the Tinidazole for the first time, and the symptoms were totally different.

Slowing down on the Ceftin had me a little flu-like for a day or two after upping the dose, then I felt great. for 5 days until I add another. That's where I am now, and I'm good with that.

I've been researching alternatives to the Tinidazole and am coming up with nothing. It looks like there's a good chance I'll react to all the alternatives too. Does anyone know more about other cyst-busters?

Flagyl is in the same class as the Tinidazole...and is a known cyst-buster.

I'm thinking that the same class doesn't necessarily mean the same reactions.

Heard back from my LLMD again. He recommended Grapefruit Seed Extract, Pure Encapsulations brand. He wants me to gradually work up to the recommended 4 capsules a day. I kind of figured he would go herbal, since there's a good chance I'll react to a similar RX.

Just ordered it on Amazon.
