Lyme Disease thoughts...my road..

Been at this 6 months or so now and have some Lyme thoughts I would like to share.. I am an MD so somewhat bias toward traditional treatments but am on Cowden protocol as well.

Symptoms since August 2016 and a postive Igenex results in early December and started abx treatment then. Classic clinical presentation with neuro symptoms of migrating burning, hot/cold, paresthetic skin predominating. Fatigue, weight loss, myalgias as well.

-Imugen and Igenex are really the only two labs for chronic Lyme tests. Finding a lab to draw blood and then hand it to you so you can mail it to some other lab is VERY difficult, but a must find.

-There is absolutely no accepted medical protocol for chronic Lyme, you are on your own.. An LLMD is a must.

- Research supports 100 days of Suprax, 200 three times a day is as effective as IV Rocephin so I chose that route. As I have neuro symptoms mainly, Rocephin IV is indicated.

-If you have neuro symptoms, as I do, Rifampin(good fat and intracellular availability) is a good candidate. I will be switching to Rifampin once the course of Suprax is complete.

-Minocycline seems to be the best of the –cyclines in terms of dosing, availability and lowest sun sensitivity profile. I have never tried it tho.. Biaxin seems the good in the macrolide world.

-Serrapeptase is a protein enzyme which has no chance of getting through your GI track undigested and therefore has no chance of getting into your circulation. This is true of all protein enzymes which is why they have no oral availability and have to be administered other ways.. I feel taking this orally is ineffective as it is quickly broken down in your GI track.

-Pulse dosing of antibiotics – I feel this is a great idea. Give the hiding bugs a chance to come out and then hit them with antibiotics. When they are stressed, they hide or change forms, relieve them of the stress for a bit of time and out the come, ready to be killed by traditional abx/herbals. Suprax continuous and Tindamax pulsed is my choice for now. Working well, feeling better.

-Cowden protocol – Labor intensive but worth it I feel. I feel much better having started this about 2 months ago as I added it to my abx regimen and it has helped.

-Epsom – Baths greatly relieve my symptoms and tend to last for hours, I am doing so every day now. I have burning skin as my main symptom, like a sun burn, and this helps greatly.

-Watch Dr Horowitz’s 7 part presentation online. Pay the $49 and learn so, so much.

-Detox is everything I have learned as is stated so often in these forums. It is true, I agree. The cowden protocol plus Broccomax, Vit B12, Epsom, all helpful I feel.

-Sleep, rest.

-Herx control gets to be the main goal quickly. I cut back on abx when the Herx gets too bad.. I will cut down to two times a day or one time day dosing and I quickly feels much better. Also add more detox. Let you body catch up for a few days and then move back up to full dose. My Herx has lasted 3 months and still apparent, tho much better.

-The recycling of the fat soluble toxins released by Lyme is a concern. The toxins are secreted in bile into your GI track with much quickly reabsorbed. Binders should help this. I am using Chlorella as part of the Cowden protocol. I need to research this more. These toxin cause the symptoms we all deal with and need to be dealt with, ie removed from your body and binders might be the answer I feel..Charcoal or others, etc..

-I cannot agree with the GSExtract ideas. There is much research showing that it is entirely ineffective in it’s pure form. The additives are what is doing the killing in vitro.

-Babesia thoughts – High chance of coinfection with Lyme. After much digging through the research I have found this bugs clears naturally in 90% of people in 6 months or so. Herbs for this are Crypto and Sida Plus which are available online. I had many Babesia clinical symptoms so I have added these two herbs and am feeling better after a few weeks. Planning on 4-6 weeks worth.

-Read, read, read, these forums are of great value.

-Best overall protocol – I feel the best is Cowden plus and antibiotic regimen with a continuous –cycline/macrolide/cef/penicillin style drug taken with a pulsed –azole/cyst/round body attacker to get the other forms. I am having success, feeling much better, almost normal at times I dare say.. One abx will not do it I feel. Two or more which attack different Lyme forms plus lots of detox is the best answer I have found.

-If you feel ok and are having minimal side effects, I feel it is ok to add more treatments such as the cowden protocol or other herbs. Add one at a time to determine which actually help. I foolishly added several at once and now cannot determine which has made me feel much better over the last few weeks.. Glad to feel better but would like to know exactly why..

-More thoughts later, hope this is helpful somehow..

Thanks for posting this. It's interesting to get the perspective from a patient/MD. Do you plan to transition to an all herbal protocol at some point? Glad to hear of your progress after just 6 months. Please do keep posting;)

Pismo10 can I ask a question in regards to your view on pulsing antibiotics. You say you take antibiotics alongside cowdens. Due to the theory of encouraging the bugs to come out and play do you also pulse cowdens?
I am very much in 2 minds of what to do in regards to this. My doctor is very much about pulsing and also pulses the herbs he has prescribed. However I am doing other things/herbs not suggested by him which I have been taking everyday but am not sure if this is wise.

Also nattokinase etc...Aren't these used a blood thinners etc wasn't there also a study done showing its effectiveness in preventing clots. I have zero medically knowledge so i'm not sure how things work in the human body but doesn't that prove it does get past the stomach?

I do not pulse Cowden, I follow the instructions to the letter. I have so much less experience than those familiar so I trust to them..

eomega.com has the Horowitz lectures for sale. They are very, very thorough, almost like a school lecture. I recommend them. I have not gotten through them all yet.

Remember many people get better from Lyme with NO treatment. Our immune systems are amazing and very active. Fate and bias is on our side, your body does not want to be infected and works very hard to clear any such..

More thoughts later, hope they are useful to some.

Just ordered some Activated Charcoal. I believe binders are important to remove the fat soluble toxins that water/urine pathways will have little effect on. Will report back any results. Using Chlorella now as part of Cowden's Sealantro.

Also - you have some mild neuropathy symptoms (I'm full body; non-length dependent small fiber neuropathy with dysautonomia). Watch it with the Mino. Sometimes us neuropathy folks can have a bad reaction to it. I certainly did. Flagyl can do the same thing. Dr H. might have mentioned this in one of his talks or books.

Pismo, Our LLMD (long experienced) has prescribed Welchol for our daughter who has neuro Lyme. He said it is excellent for detoxing. His approach is antibiotics along with herbal treatment re the Cowden protocol.

I haven't researched Welchol yet, so I can't say more about it. But I have seen that other LLMDs use it for the same reason ours does.

FYI everyone, Welchol is used to lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

From drugs dot com: "Welchol is a bile acid sequestrant. It works in the bowel to help remove bile acids from the body. The body then uses cholesterol to make more bile acids, which causes blood cholesterol levels to decrease."

So, if Lyme toxins are fat soluble, increasing bile production should increase the breakdown of fats and the elimination of those toxins.

I'm totally guessing here. I have no medical background!

Hi,thanks for the information about charcoal. I agree,I have been using it and it does help when herxing. Also I'm thinking of using it as a general binder to hep get rid of more toxins. Have a good day take care,Jo
