My son's new protocol from Dr. J. clinic. It sounds like a lot to me.
He is 99 lbs. and sensitive like me.
He begins today and I'm wondering how best to start him (not all at once that's for sure).
Girlie, are you here???
M/W/F 2x a day:
-Mino: 100 mg
-Amoxicillin: 875 mg.
-Septra DS: 800-160 mg. (this is how the dosage reads on bottle - weird.)
-Pharmacist said it was very strong abx. for a child. I think Septra is the one she was referring to.
Tuesday/Thursday: 2x a day
-Tindamax: 500 mg.
[Reads Tindazole on bottle so is this one of the black box warning drugs?]
How would you start? I’m calling J. clinic today but they never call back. I have called every day since Thursday
Hi Huddie!
A couple of things:
I believe that is Augmentin (looking at the dose?) which has Amoxicillin plus Clavulanic acid. The Clavulanic acid is to help stop the bacteria from becoming resistant to the medication.
The Septra DS is a combo of two meds: sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim.
Remember the dosing is not daily....that helps a lot - it allows for more antibiotics to be used.
When I switched taking the rifampin and minocycline from daily dosing to M/W/F - I did feel like it was easier to tolerate.
Tinidazole (cyst buster) is fine to start later on...it is often prescribed after we've been on antibiotics for awhile.
You could wait until Cycle 2 for this one.
I'm thinking he could just take the Mino and augmentin the first week. Start Mino on Monday, and add Augmentin on Wednesday. Friday he will be on both...but has Saturday and Sunday off.
Bactrim was hard on me.
Maybe Wait till week 2 to add in the bactrim.
Then he will have 1 week off.
And tinidazole on the following cycle....or even wait to Cycle 3.
Edit: Changed the sentence to read: "Then he will have 1 week off" (originally typed "2" weeks)
