Just wondering if knotweed burns anybody's throat? I take the powder mixed in water, and my throat feels raw after taking it. My lemon water really burns after taking it. It's better within a few hours, just wondering if I may be damaging my esophagus.

I take it but I usually mix it into my veggie smoothie so I don't feel anything in my throat.

Perhaps you could be allergic to it? Do you have any other symptoms when taking it?

I do the tincture and feel nothing.

Perhaps you need to put the powder in a capsule??? That would bypass the esophagus. Just a suggestion.

Knotweed has a reputation for sticking to everything going down as a powder. Doesn't seem to matter if it's with water.

Encapsulate it or switch to tinctures, like PeteZa said, don't feel anything with it that way. Just have to hold your nose to get past the odor until you get used to it.

I take the powder and don't notice anything nor does it get stuck to my throat. I make sure to shake it up good though. Have you had a lot of throats infections in the past? I've definitely herxed up things that weren't my typical Lyme symptoms that felt like past UTIs and ear infections

no throat infections ever. I've been healthy my whole life (until now)
This powder that I have definitely coats the mouth and throat going down.

I had bought some empty capsules, but really didn't know how to fill them, but found out this morning, it really isn't that hard. That was so much better than drinking it, and no irritation to my throat.

I'm new to all this, but I will definitely be switching to tinctures. One can only swallow so many pills, lol

This is exactly why I did tinctures. I took too many pills by the handfuls. Then I was taking such a slew of tinctures.

The have pill fillers that you can buy to fill many pills at a time. There are many different kinds.

Peteza - When I ordered the empty capsules, I didn't realize they made such a thing until after the fact. Just watch a demo on youtube. Much quicker than one at a time. Thanks

I wouldn't say it burns, but it's like drinking sand...
I've switched to a 00 capsule machine and only take Cat's Claw as powder in a drink now, which is much milder.

Olesver - Ya, it doesn't burn going down, "sand" is a good description. But afterwards, my throat would burn, especially when I drank lemon water. No problems since I started encapsulating them. Thanks

I use the 'cap-em-quick' capsule fillers and have for many years now and I like them a lot! The capsule fillers last a long time too, if you are careful with them! smile

Now I'm curious - what size did you get? LOL! I usually use the size 0, because they are easier to swallow, but I have recently got a size 00 for a few things like vitamin C powder.

lmlynn, I think the "sand" makes the throat raw and the lemon water (or anything really) will make it feel like it is burning because it is so raw.

Until your machine gets here, maybe put that J/K in something. Like applesauce or even wrap it in a bread ball. Think of anything that will protect your esophagus from that irritation.

Peteza - I can get it into the capsule. I put some in a small container and just push the capsule down in the powder. It packs in really nice. It's just slower. I would prefer to just mix it water (even though it taste horrible, lol) It's getting hard to swallow that many pills. I was thinking about maybe trying it in water once a day and capsules the other two times to give it a little break and see how that does. Thanks

Is it possible that you are not swallowing "all" of the powder down the first time? I know when I "cheat" and take powders that aren't in capsules, sometimes it can take extra water to get it all down.

Good plan. But, with lyme you always will need a plan B. LOL! It is all trial and error and stuff works differently for everyone.

I guess you will feel like a pioneer pill maker until your machine gets here. Like the olden days.

It depends on what you are taking. 0 size capsules are 50% more time to fill and 50% more capsules to swallow, which is a major problem with JK, if you need to take a tablespoon worth at a time.

Sorry Traveler - I missed a couple of replies. I have size 00. When I take the powder, I drink a lot of water. I try to get everything out of my mouth and throat before I ever let go of my nose.

No problem, I was just curious! I prefer to use the 0 size for many things, as it's simply easier to swallow the smaller pills for me, but there are a few things that I will use the 00 size for.

You might want to try putting it in applesauce, or something similar that is "thicker" than water. It might help it go down a little easier.
