Oh my Pirouette that is a lot of information. My head is spinning. Ill read again. But as stated earlier how does one know where to begin?
Good question. Start in small bites… read a section and then go do something else or visit new threads, here. It took a few yrs for me to understand and compile that info, you're certainly aren't going to be able to digest it in a few minutes. Especially with fog brain! Ugh, cursed fog brain...
Step 1
I'd start with identifying which sx you have might be correlated w/ yeast/fungal overgrowth - use the list in the thread. That tells you whether you have a mostly localized (in the gut) or a systemic issue, and helps determine what to take.
Step 2
Decide if you need to do any testing. Sometime we have to in order to get insurance coverage but I don't have much faith in the tests. It's entirely possible to have y/f overgrowth that doesn't show up in stool or blood. But as I mention in the thread, tests like Doctor's Data indicate efficacy of a dozen or so Rx and natural antifungals to whatever it finds and this is very helpful as a starting point.
Step 3
Get your antifungals in order.
Step 4
Get your detox in order - you need to eliminate the dead yeast/fungus as you kill it - the herxing is pretty helpful in giving feedback that your anti fungal is working, but then it's time to manage the herx w/ effective detoxing so that it—plus Lyme & Co herxing—don't overwhelm you. Some people have to stop the Lyme & Co treatment to get the y/f overgrowth under control (the abx only make y/f treatment that much more ineffective so that might be something to consider if you're really struggling).
Step 5
Evaluate your diet to make sure you truly are sugar and simple-carb-free. People forget about
simple carbs (flour, white rice, potato) but the body processes them as sugar so they need to be set aside for now.
The remaining steps are figuring out how to react to your body's responses to the antifungals… tweaking doses, etc. This takes good note-taking and time. The better you keep track of your sx and reactions to treatment, the easier your MD can help you (many are learning as they go w/ y/f overgrowth…)
And I love the conversation above about
customizing what works for you. I think that is key - with most things we are doing in our protocols, there are 'rules' that can't bend. For y/f overgrowth, that is "no sugar", and understanding what kind of antifungals work with what kind of overgrowth you have. The rest of it is so much trial-and-error, as 1000Daisies knows. And there are things we still haven't figured out.
BTW - my vice is chai tea. black tea w/ christmas spices —christmas year-round!!
