Hello All! I'm curious as to if anyone here is knowledgeable of the typical dosage of Coartem prescribed by LLMDS in targeting Babesia?

So that is two drugs in one...

Is the dose you have 20mg/120mg?

If so - this is the dosage I have seen:

4 pills twice daily for 3 days.
On the first day, take the second dose 8 hours after first dose.

2nd and 3rd day take each dose 12 hours apart.

The 1st dose of the day on all three days should be at the same time.

It can be repeated every 2, 3, or 4 weeks.

I didn't recal my dosage:

Coartem – (2) tablets 2x/day, five days on then 7 days off, and repeat.

So how many pills would that be total over a mth period? Sorry for the confusion but my insurance has only agreed to pay for 24 pills and I'm unsure if that would be enough based on the instructions you noted in your post.

My schedule required 40 pills per month. My LLMD was on the cautious side with this Rx and usually had me off all other abx combos for the month.

I've seen lots of different dosing schedules for Coartem. I would let your LLMD know the count limits and go from there. If it is effective for you then you can decided if you can afford another course out of pocket. Does the insurance only cover 24 pills per month with or without refills? You could get the 24 pills and sit on them for a month, then refill and start the course.

Alinia is another expensive drug that my insurer would only cover 6 pills at a time at level 3 co-pay. That got pricey.

4 tablets a day X 5 days = 20 tablets.

Then 7 days off

Then one more day ( 4 tablets) = 24 tablets.

so basically one cycle...plus a day.
