Endocrinologist

I am looking for an endocrinologist in Virginia with experience working with Lyme Disease. My son (age 18) has been diagnosed with Lyme Disease. His blood sugar drops critically low at times. A problem he never had before. His thyroid level has been borderline high and his red blood cells have had some questionable remarks. He also has a slow heart rate and blood pressure drops at times. EKG normal except for sinus bradycardia. These are just a few of his many symptoms. Antibiotic treatment has helped, but after months of antibiotics, we are looking for better treatment options. Looking for any recommendations on doctors located in Virginia who have experience with Lyme. We found a general practice doctor who is Lyme literate, but it is by far not her specialty. Frustrated by the lack of resources in Virginia for Lyme Disease and by all of the controversy surrounding this diagnosis.

Hi Frustrated. Good Endocrinologists with Lyme experience might be harder to find than the other way around.

I actually looked at the lymedoc.org website when I first suspected that he may have Lyme Disease. Unfortunately none of those doctors are close to us. I was able to find a doctor just over an hours drive away who was Lyme literate. She was actually who diagnosed my son and has been treating him. She is the one who recommended that he see an endocrinologist. I do believe that his issues are related to the Lyme Disease, but I don't think our current treatment plan is really addressing all of the concerns. She also stated that chronic disease could in and of itself cause problems with the endocrine system. It is pretty much a 2 hour drive for us to any major city, Richmond or Hampton Roads, but it doesn't look like even those areas have good resources for Lyme Disease treatment. I really want a doctor who will be through as I feel like there are aspects of his diagnosis and treatment that are not being properly addressed. Looking for someone who is not just knowledgeable about Lyme, but really specializes in it and other tick related diseases. I suspect my son also has Bartonella, but his blood work for this is negative.
