I made one of these, after hearing about
them and their benefits/lack of risks, based on plans I found on the aforementioned Dr. Wilson's website, and with the help of a couple YouTube videos.

PLANS.html
I am not a very smart and/or handy person, but the design of Sauna Space's saunas seemed so straightforward to me that I had to question whether or not it would be possible for someone to make something similar on their own.
I mean, it seems to just be a frame covered by thick, cotton duck material with a wooden platform for light sockets to be mounted in, and then heat lamps.
They sell the bulbs on their site, not terribly expensive, so I assumed that they were nothing special.
I used PVC pipe, pipe connectors, cotton duck, oak plywood, and Philips heat bulbs, and all the little electronical stuff necessary. All purchased at either my local Menard's or off eBay.
I would prefer to have used all wood, a cover made of hypoallergenic material, and some other more "safe" or "quality" products, but the point was to not have to spend 500 - 1000 dollars. I spent like $200.
The frame and board for the lights was easy enough, taking it slow, but I do not know how a person would make a cover without knowing how to use a sewing machine/have a friend willing. My grandmother made the cover for me.
Again, not a very intelligent or crafty sort of person, but I managed, albeit with some help. Though, I stress that one should know what they are getting into. It takes time and a bit of research to do right. I would not rush it.
It took me like two weeks to get everything together and build. I felt like crap and did not want to rush, stress myself out, worsen symptoms, etc.
NOW, as far as its performance goes, I really cannot attest, as I have barely used mine.
Why?
Well, upon completion, and my first use, it became very apparent to me how necessary it is for a person to be in the right state of health to use these things.
They heat up the body, stimulate the immune system, which triggers the killing off of bacteria. People use them for detoxing, but you could very well be doing more harm than good.
I think I am one of those that stands to do more damage than healing, at least at the moment. I cannot sweat very well in the sauna, though it is super hot, and I fear using it too much to try and
open my pores more, as has been suggested. My methylation cycle is screwed up. I may also have thyroid/adrenal issues, which this could also effect, as I believe the infrared stimulates something having to do with the thyroid, and it is said that excessive heat is bad for those with adrenal fatigue/insufficiency.
I said I have barely used it, but I actually do use it sometimes, for just a couple minutes, to raise my core body temperature, when I am feeling extra cold, just to get that little bit of stimulation, which it does a very good job of. What I meant is that I am not using it to its full potential, and do not plan to until I have methylation figured and feel comfortable with my thyroid/adrenal situation.
Anyway.. didn't mean to make the post about
ME, just wanted to alert
to some of the dangers.
edit: also, apologies if my post appears ugly - it does to me. I am a very ugly human being. It can't be helped, I'm afraid. For what it is worth, I was not born this way. People used to think me beautiful, honest.
