Rather than poor / questionable medical practice being at issue, I think it's fake reviews posted by shills and touts are the bigger take away. You can find loads of fake reviews on amazon. Just check "fakespot.com" before you accept the Amazon reviews.
I've seen suspicious posters on other types of online forums. I have used pickup truck forums and photography equipment forums among others. There are those who participate to gain knowledge from the experience of others, I think that's why we're all here.
Rhetorical question: did the poster at issue share their trials and tribulations, seek help from the forum members when they first joined? Was there a healing process that we watched unfold over time? Or did their participation begin with glowing, miraculous testimonials?
I know many good people on this forum who still visit to "pay it forward" and I applaud you all. I think most people want to just live their life and forget about
their experience with chronic Lyme once they're healed.
On other types of forums, you can find those posters who only tout and the defend the product. They look like real people online, but how can you know for sure? They're called "fan boys". Are they for real? I'd bet not all are.
Put yourself in the shoes of a marketing director. Why wouldn't you want your product promoted in online forums? It's the cheapest way to reach a specifically targeted audience.
