Increased doxy to 400mg a day leg pain and twitching increasing!

I believe it is a herx...the timing is right. See if you can get it under control quickly with detoxing. If not, then back down the dose again...and wait several days before increasing again.

My opinion - if it was a side effect, you'd most likely have it on the lower dose as well.

Doxy is an interesting drug. I remember 1.5 + years ago an ID doc put me on 100mg a day for what he said was folliculitis on my bum. I noticed right away it helped with the odd sensations in my legs. That's when I started to think I had lyme. I went back to my worthless primary doctor and told he what the doxy was doing and that i think I hve lyme. She fobbed me off and told me it was just a placebo affect. If she would have only had the balls to let me do a trial of antibiotics I may not be in the place i am today!

Oddity - is that for the gall bladder? I'm not familiar with that med to comment how/if it would affect your symptoms.


but, my bet is on the doxy increase anyway. And to 'prove' (sorta) that theory...detox...then back down if necessary...syptoms go back to how they were prior...then it's a herx.

oddity - it may have been our other Mod Pirouette. (She has been on Rocephin IV...so she was most likely taking the Actigall - is that the same as Ursodiol?)


I've put bart treatment on hold now...for the past 3 months - going after babesia.

I had stalled out with the bart treatment...and had never had a full babesia protocol...so didn't want to continue with bart...when Babesia could be holding my progress back.

I did a year and a half (with some breaks) of bart treatment.

I agree w/ Girlie, really sounds like a herx. It's awesome that you've pushed the dose to a better level but don't overdo it. The herxing SHOULD get better as you progress w/ tx. Try to increase your detoxing, as well.

I don't think the actical/ursodiol would have any neuropathy effect... I did OK on/off the gall bladder drug - I was always forgetting to take mine and for the first 6 mos. I was also taking only one capsule/day (rather than two/day) so lower dose than I should have. I've been on Rocephin 2 yrs, 2g/day for the 2nd year. And I have no gallbladder issues... was scanned a year ago.

However, depending on how long you'll be taking it, I'm not sure that I would take an "overseas risk" with that drug. ;)

Best to get your gallbladder checked at some point!

YES! I am at 80-85% recovery. I went undx for 16+ yrs so it's been a rough road.

I went of Rocephin a few wks ago --- so far, so good. Hoping to stop the vanco, which was treating both Lyme & Bart by end of summer. I'm on a pretty good herbal protocol for both and will continue it into the future - not sure how I will adjust it but plan to be on intense herbal therapy for another year, min... and some herbal protocol maybe for the next decade ;)

My biggest challenge left is to treat babs. I can't get a positive test so can't get coverage for meds... going the herbal route for now but going to start in a couple wks.

I had only a few neuropathy issues:

the outsides of my big toes were generally numb but that is gone.

my fingers would go numb/tingly although not all the time and this is gone.

facial palsy is gone.

tinnitus is better but not gone.

seizures are gone, vertigo much better (although I do wonder if the vertigo is from yeast/fungal/biofilm growth in inner ear, based on responses to tx for those issues)

scalp on fire kind of pain and skin sensitivity comes and goes but I now think this is due to viral surges.

That's all that I can remember.

My main neuropathy issues are neuro-psycho issues (anxiety, rage, depression, agression) and while they are significantly better than they were when I first herxed on the abx, I still have quite a few problems. They also flare when I start treating babs.
