Rifampin- when to take

Question- My rifampin says to take one hour before food or two hours after. Its supposed to be taken on an empty stomach. So does that mean I have to wait a total of 3 hours? I think I am over thinking this.

So right now, I havent had food since 8pm. I took it at 9pm. now I want my snack before bed. so I have to wait 2 hours after? which would be 11pm (3 hours from when I last had food)...

Also, my pee was orange the first day, but since its just been darker yellow- I read that if its orange, you are absorbing it correctly...I have been making sure I havent been eating with it..

Since you ate at 8:00 - you shouldn't have taken it until 10:00 (two hours AFTER food)
But after you take the Rifampin you need to wait one hour before you eat again.

So ONE hour before food - TWo hours after food.

My pee was orange every time.

Ugh, not sure why I'm having a hard time with this. So I'm doing it backwards.. ok.

I am also on half dose right now for first week. 150mg twice a day, then 300 twice if tolerated. Thanks

I would take it when I first got up in the morning - wait an hour (sometimes I cheated and only waited 45 minutes) and then eat breakfast.

I would take my second dose an hour before dinner.

If you're having trouble remembering which way - write a schedule down on paper: (change the times to suit your schedule)

7:00 Rifampin
8:00 Breakfast

Don't eat after 3:00 p.m.

5:00 Rifampin
6:00 dinner
