CDC Report:

On Ernie Murakami's fb page - a lyme advocate posted this in response to the CDC report:

"FALLOUT from the CDC's new report denying chronic Lyme disease treatment. Now Pharmacists are being warned about long term treatment. This could impact you drastically if a pharmacy decides to NOT fill your prescriptions based on the CDC and this recommendation that long term treatment of Lyme disease they call 'dangerous'.
This could get really bad folks, you may want to stock pile some meds to prepare "

What about the disability and even death from having untreated lyme disease...?

What about funding some research into better testing...and training the GP's in recognizing the symptoms of lyme disease?


Maybe I can get a minocycline prescription for acne. jeesh. First time in my life I wish I had acne. mad

they would love to police antibiotics if they could. I hate the CDC.

it's not the pharmacists job to second guess the doctors script.. "advise the patient to be tested.."

I was just thinking about the fact that my prescriptions don't say Lyme Disesse treatment on them- so they don't necesssrily know why I'm on the abx.

Although I have had a discussion with one pharmacist about LD treatment so that one knows.

Okay - I'm confused. I thought there was a CDC department for each country?

So this may not be a "Canadian" issue?

The CDC is a US government sponsored agency based in Atlanta, GA (actually Decatur.) Unfortunately other countries base many (too many) of their policies on the results of CDC decisions. The CDC, like all gubbermint agencies, is a political entity. Biology, chemistry and physics have no respect for the decisions made by political agencies. Neither do I.

Wow.. I used to think that if I was still living back in Canada I would've gotten diagnosed quicker, and would've been "cured" since lyme is so prevalent. Boy did I find out how wrong I was once I found this forum..

I CANNOT believe the stipulations doctors put on this. I told my mom to get tested, because she has so many symptoms, and when she told me how dismissive the doctors were I was genuinely shocked. I'm not surprised to hear this coming from Canada now, but I still don't understand it. Really breaks my heart, I hope this doesn't seep into B.C... I think that still maybe the only place in Canada where they actually take it quite seriously

akreative - I don't think it is coming from Canada - as it's the CDC - which is U.S.

But, it was posted on Ernie murakami's fb page - and he's in BC, Canada...so I'm confused.

My prescriptions do not say what my illness/disease is though...just the medication I'm prescribed.

BC is definitely the 'best ' province to be in for acceptance. But, at least if you live in Ontario it's closer to more LLMD's.

Lyme isn't as prevalent here as the U.S. Ontario has higher incidences compared to BC.
Most people I talk to don't know anything about lyme disease...unless they have a dog. The vets are treating dogs all the time here...but the the Dr.'s for us hoomans don't have a clue.

It's likely that as Old Salty said - the other countries do follow what the CDC is doing on Lyme disease too closely. I guess they are assuming that the US has a better handle on it?

But, yes, the pharmacists in the US are 'monitoring' the prescriptions. Anyone that they notice is on long term abx, they will begin to question the patient. The thing is - you have a choice of which pharmacy you use most of the time.

I've had 2 pharmacists question my doctors prescriptions - and both times I just asked when they examined me and discussed my health issues with me in detail? I seemed to not remember it and until they do that, they are not in a position to question my doctor - who I DO discuss my health issues with. Most of them do stop after that.

Now, some may think I'm a real trouble maker, but honestly, the pharmacist is paid to make sure that we (a) get the drugs that our doctors prescribe, (b) make sure there are no interactions and (c) that we understand how to best take the drugs. They are NOT there to make medical decisions for us.

Waaaaay O/T.... but given my battle of yeast over the years, when I *initially* read your title... I read it is Candidiasis instead of Canadians.

So imagine my surprise when I read the thread that it was for northern friends, instead of fungal invaders!

Ha ha ha!!! I can't tell you how many times I've had to go back and read the title of a thread over again after reading the post because what I read wasn't what was being posted about! LOL! Oh, the joys of Lyme!!
