You have to remember that many in the medical field are not familiar with lyme disease. They look it up and find that it is a bacterial infection and so they think that a "round of antibiotics" will cure it.

There are no false positives of lyme disease that I have ever heard of. Make them prove to you it is a false positive.

It is tough being the one to watch a loved one suffer. I know this first hand. I would much rather be the one in the hospital bed than just being helplessly watching. I so feel for you.

But you need to be the encourager and uplifter at this time. Try to fill her day with comedies and fun stuff. This is where your acting abilities will come into play. At night when you go home exhausted, bawl your eyes out in the shower. That's what I did.

I wish I was there and could see what they were feeding your Mom, are they helping her do any exercises at all? I would like to know what meds she is doing.

This is where you end up getting a daughter's medical degree by doing your research and by observing.

With lyme, it is a VERY - read that again - VERY slow recovery. The longer you have had it the longer is the recovery, in my opinion.

She will not get better with a round of antibiotics. It will takes months and she may not feel a difference for months. Patience is HUGE in this regard. It is easy to get to the point where you are giving up. She needs to think about grandchildren and playing with them or seeing great grandchildren.

What a huge load for your shoulders and it has to be extremely hard for you to even have a life when you are so involved with hers.

Sorry there hasn't been some improvement in the past few weeks, Kari.

If she has a positive bands for lyme and a positive bart test...then she has those infections.

Is she still being treated at the clinic? How is it done? Is she getting IV abx in her care facility?
Do you know what the abx are? If she has bartonella - she needs to be on specific abx for that infection.
If they've only treated lyme thus far....then it's time they switch to bart meds.

Kari - is there any talk about Vancomycin. I know one member here who improved greatly with the IV Vanco. and I believe she has bartonella.

I'm wondering if she needs more than 2 days break...all the toxins building up.

It might be worth discussing giving your mom a longer break after this round of 5 days....and see how she is.

if detox is an critical issue, then an IV push of Gluthatione might help her. they run about $75.00 around here in TX.

Kari - als /mnd is a bs diagnosis using latin terms to describe a syndrome where they know what is happening but can explain why or offer any solutions.

bactrim is a doozy it is a harsh drug very old ..hits many things . It actually caused more nerve damage in me sparking my als symptoms .bartonella drove deep to avoid it .

If you need confirmation do the dna connexions test .no doc needed ..but bartonella is enough to do what it has done to your mother .you may want to test as it is easily congential or if you ever had cats .

all that to say this ...i would pulse roceph with iv zith 3 days a week til she gets stronger drop the bactrim and add rifampin 600mg mwf another option would be zhang hh2 and allicin in place of rifampin (much more tolerable ) ..i would also add bvt 2 x a week . I know two others with als that used bvt to get better quik .it travels along nerves as its lipophilic and on the off chance it is a retrovirus causing als then it will get that ..one guy did ozone every otherday and now he golfs . There is more than one way to skin this cat scratch disease .

The will to live and get better is imperative . Survivors of auschwitz only had hope .that was the defining characteristic...she has been trapped in a failing body with no help from a failing medical system.its prison torture on a daily.
the bees can give immediate relief to pain and inflammation . Assuming she is not allergic .a injectable form can me mixed with procaine and its very effective too.
David martz has to live on abx .my nurse with als has to do maintence bvt but they are living life .i know that i know its possible .i am proof 2

Otherwise its just pallative care ,they will likely give her morphine in what ever care facility she is in to make room for the next victim under the guise of trying to make her transition painless. Check her charts ,spend time and make peace or spend more fight with and for her and hold the hope in her stead
