Hello fellow Lyme Warriors! I'm still new to this whole Lyme thing and I have been trying to figure out how long I have had it. I started exhibiting neuro symptoms in Dec of 2013, but looking back further than that I think I may have dismissed a lot of what I was feeling. I worked as a Registered Nurse for 14 years the last 10 of which were in ICU. I worked night shift. I was always tired. My joints ached (I was in a MVA in 2000 which left me with a couple reinforced joints)But again, nurse, night shifter, mom, wife, maid, cook, housekeeper.... I just thought the fatigue and aches and pains were par for the course. But every year we needed to get a flu shot. In the beginning they gave us a choice, it was highly encouraged, but not mandatory. I got them when I was pregnant, bc I thought it best. But I would get sooo sick afterwards. 3 times I ended up with pneumonia within a week or two of getting vaccinated. I talked to or head of infection control and was reassured that my sickness was not caused by the flu shot. My question is, when you have Lyme how does your body react to vaccines like the flu shot? Was i getting sick bc a dead virus was being introduced into an already compromised immune system, or was it all "coincidental"?

Hi Hocking, fellow Warrior!

I think a flu shot I received back in 2009 started me down a path of relapse. I think it was the start of my GI problems, which led to other health problems and sinusitis/bronchitis and a circuitous path to diagnosis.

I was never an anti-vaxxer, but had researched enough since getting diagnosed 3 yrs ago to understand why it took me 16+ yrs to get diagnosed and why Lyme is so controversial and the 3rd rail. And that knowledge also revealed the decline in the quality of medical research and publications and how easily manipulated and corrupted the entire system is.

So, I encourage you to see VAXXED if you haven't.

There are so many problems with the flu vaccine but specific to your question, Lyme & Co and tx already compromise your immune system and obtaining a vaccination while treating really sounds risky. You probably reacted because your immune system is struggling but also because there are serious problems with the vaccine.

Others here will share their awful experiences with the flu shot. I know I will NEVER receive another vaccine unless forced to by law and even then I may "find a way..." I'm still not anti-vax but I am 100% anti-ignorance and I've educated myself enough to know the science is bad, the entire medical system is run by Big Pharma and no one can be trusted.

There is a big sign in the waiting room of my llmd's office which says that Lyme patients should not receive flu shots. But, I can't remember why, sorry! It does have something to do with immune system.

Like Hocking1017, I became SO sick the 2 times I received the flu vaccine. I ended up with pneumonia, etc that lingered for months. Dr. told me it had absolutely nothing to do with vaccine ... was just a coincidence. It was obviously not coincidence. Within 48 hours of each flu shot is when the horrible illness began.

It is since then that I have tested positive for Lyme and co. I will never have another flu shot.

My son had Lyme and Babesia since birth, last year he received his first flu shot and that was it. Full blown symptoms (extreme joint pain, vertigo, flu-like symptoms, etc). Don't ever get a flu shot if you suspect Lyme and/or co-infections.

If you read any of the Lyme books that discuss this, it has to do with being immunosuppressed - and really they should test for this before administering ANY vaccine (flu or otherwise).

I was required by my employer to get a flu shot each year or not work there. This was way before I had lyme. So for 4 years I did so and it was not big deal. I also in that time span became old enough to get a shingles shot and my tetanus was old so I got that one too.

Absolutely nothing happened to me.

Now??? No way am I getting a shot of any kind. Oh and I am "healed" or in remission. Just my personal choice after my research I've done with having lyme.

Yeah. I got the flu shot once and that was enough for me. At the time I'd been sick for several years, but was told it couldn't possibly be Lyme...you know that story.

I got sick as a dog after the shot. I cursed that Doc in my head up one side and down the other for "doing that to me".

I've had to argue my position with every medical practitioner, every flu season, since. I swear the next time someone asks me I'm going to ask them if they're getting kick-backs. Lol.

The only one I have had since, and don't recall having had an issue afterwards, was a pneumonia shot a few years ago. It had to have been before my last surgery that preceded my last relapse. Well, hmmmm, I wonder how long before?

I am highly susceptible to pneumonia with my low lung function, and getting it could easily kill me, so I always have to weigh the risk/benefit thing. Sigh.

I received a flu shot and pneumonia shot at same time, and I believed it suppressed my immunity and allowed the lyme to take hold. That was at the end of 2015. Last year Fall I had a flu shot, and my symptoms got worse. I was finally diagnosed early this year. No more flu shots for me.

MDs get kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies all the time - has always been that way. Why would vaccines be any different than pharm drugs?

Due to their lack of knowledge, laziness in pursuing information, and their harassment of patients, MDs are COMPLICIT in every capacity for the current crisis of vaccine harm.

sad Yeah....didn't think about that. This one always says "I just want the best for you".

Right at this moment I think I'd get better care from (one of) my Veterinarians.

Oh, I know full well Girlie. Remember the Winter before last I couldn't get an appointment with my PC because he was off on vacation all the time.

Some might have been disguised as med conferences, but we all know what that means. At any rate, turns out none of them were LYME conferences!

I *think* I was bit this winter in California, and I got the flu shot in feb, before I knew I had lyme, and got soooo sick!! I don't plan on getting another flu shot!!

If you have lyme there is something wring with your immune system. People with strong immune systems do not get lyme.
If you have a compromise with your system you should not get the flu shot.

I got flu shots in 07 and 08

I ddint know,

I didn't knowi had som elyme


and I didn't know I lived in a moldy home with high mold toxins


I didn't know I have methalytion defect genes


now I am like a walking vegetable, well, I can only walk a tiny bit

I though I could beat this disease, with will,d etermination, years later, I don't know what is going to happen to me
