Persistant Brainfog

It's their anything I can do for persistant brainfog? I've been sick for three months. The best my primary doc will do is advise me to go to the ER which is basically a big waste of time. Was given 2 weeks amox but never got better. I need a new doctor obviously but in the mean time I need something to alleviate the dizziness avid brainfog. I've got no sick time left and need to work.

The only thing to clear my fog and dizzyness was bvt and heavy duty bartonella treatment .refinance lyme isnt handle in weeks or months unless it is a new case ...neurolyme takes lots of time and money

Are you detoxing? That is what you need in addition to more treatment.

what helped me:
- ALA
- ibuprofen
- green tea - this is a big one, it always helps
- sleep
- vitamin D but in doses >5000IU/day. I was taking 2000IU and after 1 year i found i was DEFICIENT, how the hell can that be? I got a huge boost only after going from 2000 to 5000 and adding vit K
- omega3, but don't take one pill please, take many pills, or buy fish oil bottles and take a few spoons before bed... or eat fish daily
- diet, yes, im sorry... My fog was terrible until i removed both gluten and dairy. Especially dairy in the last 6m, that was a big one, i already had removed gluten before that. It's hard to remove both but even harder to have MS symptoms that r getting worse... (and brain fog is one of them)...

if u don't eat dairy, take some calcium, but careful how much u take, if u take megadoses of vit D your gut efficiency at calcium absorption is very high, u don't need 1000mg of calcium per day! that is too much ! For me even 500mg was too high, i tested for calcium levels and i was close to maximum (after taking 3 days break of supplements before testing), so probably 500mg ever other day. But i also eat nuts which are high in calcium (raw peanuts for eg).

another good source of calcium is mineral water (that is NOT the same thing as carbonated water), u can check the calcium contents per volume, some have 300mg/l or even more...

Clearly I need some medical treatment. I did 20 days of amox which helped while i was taking it but within a week or so of stopping my symptoms returned. I took amox because I am allergic to doxy. I am curious to know what antibiotics are best to deal with brain fog? Aside from headaches and stiff neck, the dizziness/ brain fog is 90% of what makes this so difficult.

for brain fog because of Borrelia, the best antibiotic is Minocycline. It gets in large amounts in the brain and is fat soluble, it has neuro protective effects, it down-regulates inflammation and it helps even MS patients (recent study). It will NOT cure you, though. i think you know this by now. Even Buhner recommends mino in SEVERE neuro cases:

usually if you have bartonella or babesia, u need to take at least 2-3 antibiotics to see a difference, for neuro or for anything else...

amoxicilin is very good for very early lyme, but it's not that good for neuro lyme because it does not penetrate the BBB (does not get to the brain) well. HOWEVER, in my case i had severe neuro herxes on amoxicilin alone, 1.5grams a day... so don't believe everything you hear about it not being that good. it is good... of course it will not cure you ...

if you are allergic to doxy you may be also allergic to mino since they are both tetracycline derivaties, so please be careful, i would not self treat if i were allergic to abx, too dangerous...

i think in your case i would hate to say but if u want to go neuro and without mino, u need ceftriaxone, which is an intravenous penicilin that gets very deep in the brain. it's like amoxicilin but it crosses the brain barrier much better so it will destroy more lyme bacteria there. unfortunately it is very expensive and hard to administer, u need a port connected , daily injections etc... life is not easy

another oral option for you that works well with brain infection is cephalosporines. like Ceftin. They are very active against lyme and get well in the brain and have nothing to do with tetracyclines.

they are however more toxic to the liver than ammox or doxy, but a good oral alternative to rocephin (ceftriaxone).

Rough day Friday. Usually when I wake up I feel a little better before things get bad again. On Friday I woke up and my head was spinning just as bad as when I went to bed. I didn't sleep much that night which is probably why I felt that way. At any rate I knew it was going to be a rough day. On my way to work on Friday I nearly drove my car off the road. I immediately went to the ER. I have resisted going because if it's one thing I can't bear when my head is like this is answering questions. That on top of the doubt/ resistance I encounter from doctors and lost time just makes the whole thing irritating.

I was there from 9am - 3pm. You'de think 3 months of dizziness and headaches would warrant some tests. Nope! The doctors and Infectious Disease department simply reviewed my case and documents they got from my primary care doc and gave me a perscription for another round of amox. Better than nothing, I'll take it. But I feel like it just kicks the can down the road...and I'm the can.
